Well, I can't rate this chapter, it seems all the good ratings are already used up and I refuse to give it an undeserved bad rating.
Having said that, I loved the teacher's meeting and the reaction of the staff to the news of Harry's "toys", and their capabilities, and the disclosure that he's already been taught magic by a number of folk who have no love at all for Wizarding Britain. I get the impression that this disturbs them for some reason - pity, that; perhaps they should learn to treat people better. I did love the bit about their dealings with Dr. Strange as it sounds so like him.
The Transfiguration class was a delight, not only can he "do", well, but he can also teach clearly. I suspect Minerva's going to be giving him some advanced instruction just to see how much he does know and can do.
The scene with Snape was good, apparently he's got a disdain/phobia for technic, muggle items as bad as the grudge he holds against the deceased James Potter. I loved the reaction when Harry refused to sit there and take it and then was able to enforce his stand; 'twould've been educational for Snape to learn just what muggle technology can do these days. I don't think Albus is going to appreciate Snape causing him these problems, esp. since -this- Harry is intelligent, independent, self-assertive, and not given to manipulation (I see both Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, at a minimum, have had their attitudes rub off on him). I don't think Dumbles is used to this situation and it's amusing to find him so flummoxed, esp. when he knows that 'most any other magical school in the world would love to get Harry, or worse, that Harry would go back to training with Mistress Harkness and the others. 'Tch, Albus, you really didn't do due diligence here, did you? And it's going to come back and bite you.
I'll admit, I'm looking forward to hearing more details on just -why- Wixarding Britain is so annoyed/displeased with Agatha Harkness. It should be quite a story.
Too, I'll be quite interested in seeing just who drops off Harry's replacement Datapad, though I reckon Tony will send a suitably prepared contingent to see what happened to Harry when the emails stop. Albus will not like the visit, no matter -who- it is, and some folk he may be even less fond of seeing than the magical folk (I'm reminded of the discussion on CaerAzkaban about one certain personage who's trained Harry in things besides magic.
Author's response
- Strange is fun to write. His cameo will be a whole lot of fun.
- In as much as magic is a biological function in the Potterverse, all this grunting and staining that everyone has them do seems silly to me. Canon has untrained children doing major magic events, vanishing the glass in the reptile house et al, the contortions they put those kids through in school seems a bit much. For these people magic should flow as easily as picking up a fork at the table.
- A (partial) explanation for Agatha's rep comes next chapter.
- No, not Steve. Brian and Megan...
