Ok, this story was going great until this chapter. The 'break up' reaction from Harry seems quite OOC as is the letter - the Harry you have shown us is smart enough to realise it's not from Daphne. The Harry you have painted quite well for us is quite different from the Harry that accepts the letter.
I know I'm not stating it well, but I honestly had to check and make sure I was reading the same story as I swore it was a new Harry..
Hopefully there will be a good explanation for this abrupt character shift, and hopefully Harry and Daphne will be back together soon.
Author's response
- Oye. The grief I'm getting from this chapter.
- Some think he's out of character, some thing he's in character but an idiot for not automatically knowing that Dumbles/The Elder Greengrass/Ginny is behind it. Three people have told me they think I've handled Harry's reaction exactly the way he would react.
- Let's review: For Harry's entire life, when ever he was happy, whatever or who ever was the cause of said happiness was taken from him. As he told Tonks in the previous chapter he was worried because he was happy.
- He gets the Dear John letter. He goes into a massive feel sorry for himself mode and breaks things (much to Dobby's delight) Something like 24 hours after he was dear johned he was at Hermione's house for Christmas Dinner. He hasn't had time to process what has happened yet.
- Yes Daphne went from "I wuv boo" to "We're through" in less than a week. That does indeed happen. It happened to me.
- Is Harry going to suspect that he and Daphne are being handled? Of course he is, as soon as he can get a chance to THINK about it.
- He will honor her request to leave her alone until he can talk to her back at school...
