People do, at least the people I know do, so I figured, why not? :)
They can't prove it, that's the problem
They will say it's a lie, that's actually in the next chapter - but they have only just found out, it's not like they can stick their heads out the door and shout it, it has to be done properly and casually by their management. If they reply in a panicky way, it'll look suspicious
