I can't comment on your friend, but I don't think posting stories like this is stupid and here's why:

1) It's a great outlet for creativity
2) With 'ready made' characters it makes the stories more accessible
3) It brings people with similar interests together
4) It makes people happy
5) It's fun

And that's just off the top of my head - I could probably go on for another 5 quite easily.

I will say to you what I'd say to anyone who was made to feel bad about something they enjoyed:

So long as it's not hurting anyone(including yourself), what's the problem?
