Okay, on re-reading I note the sudden breaking off of discussion when informing Harry of his family came up, has Dumbledore cast an avoidance spell on that and related topics or is someone else trying to limit Harry's knowledge of his family?
Too, this little bit didn't quite sound like Ron, "...radical views or synthesize them...", he'd be more likely to say "...radical views or combine them...". Given what we know of Ron, I seriously doubt he necessarily knows the word synthesis let alone its meaning and how to use it.
