Owww. The hair on my arms stood on end. As usual, the nuances of the phrasing are just right -- not indulgently melodramatic, but achingly clean and crisp and just /right/. Wonderful job.
One thing though, the last line doesn't flow as smoothly as all the others. The parallelism ("Them for promising her/, or her for believing /it") seems off.
