I'm sure that something similar to this has been done before. However, I do like reading these stories for the entertainment value.
As for the slaves, I do think Harry should get an eclectic group of people that have different strengths. i.e. someone who is cunning and politically savvy to help him defend his bonded and get rid of his enemies, a caring person to help them heal from horrific events, someone who is smart to help Harry learn things, etc.
I don't have a preference for a single person, as there are a number of virtually unused people in canon who could be molded to fit the needs of the group.
