I love that on Saturday's I can sit back and read your stories. I need to find new adjectives for you.
This chapter was a constant reminder of the innonce of the time period you are writing about. From the girls worrying about the type of hair is better to Marilyn Monroe's memoirs.
Then the slap in the face of the cruelties of it. And though it seems the school is intergrated there is still a segregation when it comes to little things like choir. I love how Bob longed to play and be part of that group and because of the possible reprecussions can't bring himself to ask.
There were so many simpler things back then, most families could afford a house, didn't have to worry about the guy driving down the street was a sex offender. At the same time worse, it was okay for husbands and father's to be abusers as long as it wasn't in public and it was always a night in jail for the guys to cool off. Child abuse was an acceptable way of punishment and what is happening to Desirae was never spoken of.
Are they really the good old days and a time of innocence or was it a time of ignorence, arrogance, prejudice and looking the other way?
I guess it was all of that and you captured it perfectly.
It seems Bob and Desirae have a new understanding of each other and are looking after each other in very different ways. It also gave a clue as to why Diserae looks out for Shannon. She couldn't take care of her own situation so she did the next best thing helped someone else out with theirs.

I wanted this to be as honest and real as it could, I didn't want to change the time back then, cause it would just not work. Its hard to illustrate racism, but there will be more crucial parts later.
I completely agree. Was it? Sure the economy was easier, but yes women were beat and child abuse was never spoken. Have you heard of Sylvia Likens? She was a teenager who was unforutantely tortued to death by a psychotic woman and her kids, and their friends. All that time parents or passerbys never said anything, and she ultimately suffered for it. It also is like Desirae's case, her abuse just wasn't worth bringing up. It's difficult to write abuse parts, but I know it's a must. I just wanted to show that it does go unnoticed, and I'm happy you caught the differences. This is my first actual historical fact story if you will....
Desirae and Bob are understanding each other. I promise there will be more romance soon, but I write like I'm a writing a book, so it kinda takes a while. Again, you got the idea, of Desirae who does protect Shanna because she can't control her own situation, so she channels it to help someone else.
