I was considering Harry's creation of the emitter jewels, and I had this sudden vision of Neville doing this task, making two, and creating the double end lightsaber of Darth Maul..
Neville strikes me as the kind of guy who could handle such a tool, or even a quarterstaff.

Thanks for the nod to the focusing crystals. I worked hard at making them, as I am more than familiar with both crystal and gaseous lasers. I've seen what can happen if you use a flawed crystal. Each has to be absolutely perfect to be of any use.
Now the problem is that he has less that one year to train, he needs sixty lightsabers, and each crystal takes five days to produce. E-mail me with your guess of how he's gonna do it.
While I agree that Neville would be a good choice for a Lightstaff, the only reason I will not have him using one is because of the amount of time they have. Harry has less that one year to teach his crew Shii-Cho, Makashi, Soresu and Ataru. However as you've seen, I will include Neville in a closer friendship than Ron, (who I believe never should have been given the job). I will not be bashing Ron, nor will I relegate him to the outfield, though he will play a lesser role, and while he will be jealous, he will be made to understand that Neville is more deserving of his spot. I've already set the stage for his pairing.
