From what you've said, I can't wait to see how Snape ends up. It should be a memorable ending.
I rather imagine that between the information that Arabella will be able to give Carolyn and what the "observer" Auror recorded, Dumbledore's position has become that much less secure; couldn't happen to a more deserving person.

That figures. I haven't read any of Reynolds books, (I think) but I have read many very good books about Soviet espionage, and I recognized the rather fatalistic pattern.

Since she already knows what Harry's home-life was like, Arabella can't give her too much. I just wanted to make sure Dumbledore didn't knock her off. She's a good-hearted person who's been used by an evil old man.
While the Aurors are recording things, for potential prosecution, his reputation is about as low as it can get. You'll get your first glimpse as to what Harry will do in the 'January' chapter.
