I first read this a while ago, and I think I had to digest for a while and read it again to form a proper opinion. I love the story's bittersweetness -- heavy on the bitter. It just seems so much more true to the game than fic where everything's sunshine and rainbows after Ultimecia's defeated. FF8 is a gritty world where teenagers are mercenaries, and Zell's fate and the deaths of his friends and Sheri being drafted at age 6 aren't fair but they fit. Life isn't fair but the little things can be absolutely wonderful. Poetic. Great stuff.
