Just thought I'd mention that tuition fees in England and USA are very different. For instance at the moment even the best UK universities only charge about £3000 a year tuition (including Cambridge etc). Although this will change substantially next year.
In 1996 tuition fees didn't even exist in universities.
Private schools (as opposed to universities, which is the reference you chose) today may cost about £6000 per term for people who are boarding today, in 10+ years ago it would have been much less.
All the same, enjoying your story up to where I've read, thanks for the interesting read.

Hello poo.
Thanks for clearing that up. I based the cost on the price of tuition at Harvard here in the US. I figured Eton would be on a similar footing.
Unfortunately here I the US, college and university costs amount to your arm, your leg, your first born and your cat.
Still if a private school charges £6000 per term which works out to about US$11,000.oo and there are three terms per year, that's 33grand for the year.
Glad you're liking the story. More to come.
