Excellent start; would like to see some where Harry and Hermione get closer sooner after Ron deserts them, but this is an excellent way to pull readers in and make them kick and scream for more.
Get the feeling, though, that the translation spell didn't HAVE to be done via a kiss, but it makes sense that a Veela would see the opportunity and grab it for all it's worth.
