Hi DrT, I found your latest story and decided to take a look at your earlier works. Some of the descriptions of your works sound really interesting, but this was the first I chose to read.
Well, here's what I think:
I can well believe that people like Umbridge would be so stupid and cleanse the whole country of mud-bloods, half-bloods and half-breeds. Chucking both Harry and Hermione in Azkaban isn't all that surprising either.
I can only shake my head in wonder at the stupidity of the remaining 185 English wizards. Aside from the obvious fact, that you could never keep any infrastructure of a whole country alive with this few people, the worst is the missing genetic diversity to survive. I know that you need to maintain a group of at least 1,000 people in order to survive in the long term.
I'd like to believe - if the world of Harry Potter was real - that the upper crust, that remained in Wizarding England would not be so terminally stupid.
Author's response
I have no doubts that the world they first tried for would be the goal of many of the 'pure' in canon. I also doubt if any definition of 'pure' would have given them 'better' results. Of course, I doubt they could have pulled it off in any event
