Tom didn't feel any remorse. It was the magi in Harry's blood. Or something like that. Makes no sense in hindsight. But from what I remember when writing, Harry felt so much remorse, that it literally coursed through his veins, due to magic. Considering accidental magic is reflected by your own feelings, not too unrealistic. I hope that answers your question.
