First of all, purple is my favorite color. Pete is purple. I found that funny. (Also, grey is my second favorite color. I guess you really wrote this story for ME. ;) )
This chapter reminds me of a book I´ve read for one of my classes last spring. It´s called "An Equal Music" and is about a pianist who gradually becomes deaf. I recommend reading it, btw.
The conversations between your characters are very natural and authentic. I´m very interested to learn how Patrick deals with Pete being the early bird.
