You accurately described a very broken person (IMO). My heart damn near wrenched out of my chest when I saw the letter from Frank to Gerard. When someone is that unstable, a tendency to emotionally depend on someone else is (in many cases) a really bad thing when that other person can't give them the type of "attention" they need.
I love the way this was done in first person, it made it seem that much more real.
