I saw this as a poem, it was very beautiful but dark. I did not see it as sad but as revealing and your character was strong.
You make an excuse at the very end which was not needed. Never excuse work that came from your internal being. Let your reader discern his/her feeling they get from reading your work. Some may read your work and have their spirits lifted.
