I'm not really a DC fan, but I'm really enjoying this story. I think you are giving your characters plenty of depth and realism, while still staying true(-ish) to who they are.
As to story length I prefer long stories, the longer the better. Epic is a good adjective in my book. But whether you continue this in arcs or in one long story, I'll be happy just so long as you continue it.
