Wow, I have to say I wasn't expecting the memory wipe. It does seem a bit like cheating to give him a happy childhood though. I would have thought something closer to reality. Parents dead in a car crash when he was a baby, being raised in a borderline abusive house by an aunt and uncle, being on his own when he turned 18 and starting over, maybe with a small inheritance his family never knew about.

It's not all about the childhood, though that is a part of it. Harry was in a war. In the thick of it. He had to kill someone. Something of that nature sticks with you for the remainder of your life. The wipe, as I see it, is more to get away from the guilt of having killed as well as the guilt of having survived when others didn't. ~EJ
