I think there is something very beautiful and very sad in the way only Jiraiya is really holding together. Although, i suppose that is true for both this story and the original.

I don't really know about how well Jiraiya is holding up in this fic. He's probably the one Sannin who holds up the best/, but he's just as broken as the other two. Just as Orochimaru says, he's being selfish to the point of cruelty; he's so terrified of being the one left behind alone, that he keeps his best friend locked away so that he /can't leave.
