I've always wonder where that last quote came from. I've heard it many times in many places. I've been told by people who've read the HP books that Dumbledore is a good guy just misunderstood. I, on the other hand, wonder if they have several screws loose. Just look at his actions and it's plain he ain't no light lord! If, as has been supposed, Bumbleohsomore never checked up on Harry in the ten years before he went to Hogwarts, then please explain to how that makes him a good guy? McGongall told him to his face quite plainly that the Dursley's were not good people to leave Harry with and he ignored her. Now let us look at the Medinurse Poppy. How, after everytime she scanned him in the hospital wing of the school, did she fail to notice all the medical problems he had? Exceptionally short for his age. Glasses held together by tape. Exceptionally thin for his age. Very likely how brittle his bones were. All signs of abuse and yet she never noticed. Or, on the other hand, maybe she did and good ol' Albie erased her memory of it. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he did at all.
