Believe it or not a conman managed to sell it after WWI. He convinced several contractors that the French Government was going to tear it down and replace it with something else. Needless to say after they paid him his fee, they never saw him again. Nor was there EVER any talk about tearing down the Eiffel Tower for any reason. ABSOLUTELY TRUE STORY! :)
