It's now 2019, and I don't know who, if anyone, will ever even read this review, but I want to write it anyways. I come back to this story once or twice a year since stumbling upon it, and I've probably read it a dozen times. I'm long past reading and writing fiction of my own here, but First of the Gang to Die has always stuck with me. And every single time, even when I know it's coming, I get emotional and once I've gotten through it (which usually takes me a couple days, I can tell you though, my first time through was overnight in one sitting. I couldn't put it down) after finishing the last chapter, and reading through the one-off last scene, I have to sit back and control my tears. It truly is a work of art, and my favorite story I have ever read. I wish I could place a physical copy of this text on my bookshelf, and I've definitely thought about having it printed to hold it in my own hands, and never worry about losing it to the internet. I am so, so glad to have had the chance to know the famiglia de la Via.
