Well, that was an interesting and original little idea brought to life. I've always thought that Harry has abandonment issues, so this is not as OOC as I'm sure some people would think.
The ending reminds me of the prologue to "The Final Reflection", a favorite Star Trek novel I have read a number of times. When the truth is unknown, fiction will fill the gap and, who knows? Maybe even guess at the truth.
I conclude by remembering that Harry led a simple, humble life from the final battle on, raising a family and disclaiming all honour and fame from his victory. Some would regard that as pennance enough for his crimes.
