This is exquisite. There are many perfect phrasings, stray thoughts that fit the complex puzzle that is Auron (who is not Auron without Jecht and Braska delineating his loss). Fleeting images that stayed with me include the idea that in a different plane of existence than they can see, Zanarkand teems with images, memories. The hints of Braska's gentle, noble, kind personality flicker through Auron's musings. You wisely keep just this side of angst and melodrama -- Auron is a tragic figure but restrained, cloaked. "Duty is nothing more than another form of love." A perfect synopsis of why we adore Auron.
Nitpick? Oh, I feel like I'm brushing a fleck of dust off Michaelangelo's David, but anyway, I couldn't quite follow this clause: "it made any willingness to forgive to diminish..."
