Glad to see you are pushing the plot in your own direction. It's nice to read a book 1 which will in no shape or form resemble the actual book 1. I always wondered if Lucius knew what the diary would do, why wouldn't he have found someone loyal to sacrifice it. I look forward to your answer to that one.

The only reason I could think of was the one offered in canon -- canon Lucius wanted to get the Weasleys in trouble, and it's always better to sacrifice an enemy than an ally.
