Lovely story, and speaks very well to that almost-natural want to romanticize Muraki that's easy to do.
I think everyone who has the capacity to like Muraki at all has a Tsuzuki moment now and again. The "Oh, but only if this had happened" or "I wonder if...". And of course, the important part that everyone is forgetting is that Muraki is a creepy, sadistic madman, who enjoys hurting people. >->
