In the schoolyard
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "I can’t love you like that."
He went home heartbroken, crying piteous tears
That smudged his eyeliner and streaked his face
In the park
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "What would everyone think?"
His lip trembled for a moment, then he quickly disappeared
Into one of the forest-trails so I wouldn’t see him cry.
During band practice
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "Not now."
He sat down to patiently wait,
Smiling for the first time.
30 minutes later
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "Not today. Not for a long time."
He packed up his guitar and left early,
So he could cry alone.
During Class
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie,” I told him, "When you’re 18."
He glanced up at the calendar on the wall,
And tears formed in his eyes at the distance
On his birthday
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "I want to make something of myself first"
He practiced for an hour that day, and I found him in his room that night,
Begging Brian over the phone to help us get an interview, but even as he did so,
I saw a stray tear roll down his cheek.
After a huge concert
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "I’m tired and can’t think."
He nodded slowly, but a few minutes later,
Mikey asked me if I knew why Frank was crying in the bathroom.
On the tour bus
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "The guys are around"
He went to bed, and when I followed,
I heard quiet sobs coming from his bunk.
In a hotel on tour
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "We have to get some sleep for the show tomorrow"
He turned over in his bed and, though there was silence after that,
I knew he was crying himself to sleep, the sound muffled in his pillow.
Back home, by the lake
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "People jog around here and stuff."
He got up and walked away, his shoulders shaking.
In his and Jamia’s apartment
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"No, Frankie," I told him, "Jamia will be back soon, what if she walked in?"
He turned on Titanic so he’d have an excuse to cry so hard.
On a moonlit walk in the middle of nowhere
"Love me, Gerard. Please."
"Yes,” I wrapped my arms around him, "I’ll love you forever."
Frankie cried tears of joy, and I was there to kiss them away.
And I always will be.
Because I love him.
Forever.
Got this idea from LonelyVampire, muchas gracias to her. My first try at poetry-type stuff, so be nice! And let me know what you think. Review review review! Love you to pieces (don’t make me make that literal).
