Ryan hugged his hoodie closer to his body as the wind bit at his skin on his way through the snow to the place once very familiar to him. He hadn’t had a need for her since Beckett doused any curiosities he ever had once having found out Ryan was going to see someone who had answers for questions. But now the charms had worn off, he no longer cared what his Master thought of him because he knew. He was just a toy, a fuck hole, a cum trap, nothing more; ever. He frowned as his chest tightened once more when Beckett’s past laughter echoed in his mind, part of the memory having replayed. Obviously it was his punishment for murdering the only one who could have ever loved him; even if he didn’t deserve that love.

As he came across the spot where a small record shop had been, he frowned to see a small clothing store now stood in it’s place and he began to worry that he had lost his one and only connection because of the bastard he called Master. He was about to walk away when the door was pulled open and a familiar face beamed at him before he was pulled into the biggest hug he had received since he was a human. As the other person pulled away, he looked into the beaming face of Holly.

“Your record store...?” He left the question hanging, knowing how well she knew him, to the point where she would undoubtedly know what he wanted to know.

Holly smiled up at him. “I decided to try something more. Besides, I still have a small section for CDs inside,” she answered. “But where have you been, Ryan? I was worried sick when you stopped coming around and no one connected to you knew anything.”

Ryan looked around, suddenly very conscious of the fact that they were still standing outside, where anyone could see. “Holly, do you still have that spare room?” He questioned, referring to the room they would sit together in while she gave him any information he wanted. She had been the one to teach him what he needed to know about being a vampire, since Beckett only cared about fucking to teach him anything.

She gave him a warm smile before taking his hand in her own and leading him inside, towards the back of the store. She noticed that as they walked he took the chance to take in the new look to her store. Aside from information commissions, this was her income that she took pride in, so it made her smile more when he took an interest in the look of her store. She lead him to the newly redecorated, and more organized, back room, motioning to a chair for him to sit in. “So, the answer to my question?” She questioned as she sat down behind the desk she had, with her row of multiple filing cabinets behind them.

Ryan sighed as he leaned back in the chair, wondering why she still had the chair he had preferred during his visits when she obviously had bought newer ones. “Master didn’t like it too much that I came to you instead of speaking to him of anything I ws curious about,” he answered, “so he told me I couldn’t come to you anymore. I listened.”

Holly frowned as she took in the old, exhausted look in his eyes, a deeper frown creasing her mouth as she realized his eyes had lost the spark that was always there when he came in to see her. His own frown seemed permanent on his lips, making her wonder what had happened. “Are you still serving under William Beckett?” She questioned, hoping he wouldn’t confirm it.

“Yes,” Ryan whispered, looking down at his hands as he folded them on his lap. “I am.”

“Then, if he stopped you from coming before, why are you here now?” She asked, leaning on her desk, still studying him. Before when he came in, he had a stoic expression but his eyes still had fire to them. Now, even as only being human she could read his now pained expression; something had happened.

“I don’t care anymore,” he whispered, his voice breaking. “I don’t fucking care what he has to say. I was loyal, Holly, I did everything I was told. I loved him, more than any of those other fucking pets and he still hurt me. He even let some new toy take my spot...”

Holly felt sympathy for the very emotional vampire in front of her as she rose from her chair behind her desk and walked around it to him, putting her hand on his shoulder. “What happened, Ryan? I don’t think that’s the only thing that’s hurt you like this.”

Ryan turned tear-blurred eyes to her, catching her off guard when she watched a tear roll down each cheek, leaving behind stains on his pale cheeks. “Holly, I need you to tell me where a human is, as soon as possible,” he said slowly. “I need to talk to her about Brendon.”

“Is something wrong with him?” Holly asked, a sinking feeling forming in her stomach when Ryan’s eyes filled with more tears, causing him to turn his head away from her as they began falling after a soft sob escaped his mouth. Something has to be very wrong to make him cry, she thought as she wrapped her arms loosely around him. I’ve never seen a vampire cry, and he’s always been so strong, so what the Hell is going on?

“H-He’s dead,” he whimpered as his body began to shake from held back sobs.

“Brendon’s...dead?” She asked softly, unable to believe what she had just heard.

He let out another sob before he quickly rose and practically crumbled into her arms, knowing she wouldn’t push him away, knowing she would comfort him; and that was what he needed. “I killed him, Holly,” he cried out before crying into her shoulder as she held him closer, rubbing his back, not knowing what to say or do. “Beckett told me to kill him and I did because I loved him, he called me ‘love’ as if he had meant it and I believed it.”

“But, Ryan, it wasn’t your fault,” Holly said softly as one hand continued to work on rubbing his back while the other hand tangled itself gently in his hair, playing with the soft locks. “You were being a loyal pet and listening to your Master, it’s what pets do, Ryan.”

“No, Holly, you don’t understand,” he said before whimpering and clinging to her. “I felt bad, even as I was taking his life, so telepathically I apologized... He... He forgave me. Because he loved me. Brendon told me as he was dying that he forgave me for listening to the man I loved because he loved me.”

Holly felt her heart sink for the poor boy, understanding now as he resumed sobbing helplessly into her shoulder that he realized too late that he could have possibly had true love and instead of seeing it, he had killed it for a twisted Master who would never love him. She continued to comfort him as he cried, searching her mind for the memory of who had been Brendon’s connection. She had known once but she rarely talked to other informants because in reality, all informants were rivals in the business, so it was rare to have them converse with one another.

She knew it was another human, and not a vampire so that helped narrow the thought search down a bit, but there were still quite a few human informants working for vampires. No informant held loyalty, even if they claimed they did, because how could you make any money that way in a place where vampires were always willing to pay higher than one another for an informant’s help?

“Her name is Caity,” he said before sniffling as he slowly pulled his head from her shoulder, his tears still silently falling even though his sobs had subsided. “That is who I need to find.”

“Are you sure about the name?” Holly questioned, wanting to make sure he had it right, because the last thing she wanted was to send an over-emotional Ryan to an informant that could be a vampire because he didn’t know a name.

He nodded and wiped his face, suddenly feeling very stupid for having lost himself to his emotions so easily. “Her name is Caity, and she doesn’t have a shop as a disguise for her business, she runs out of a rented office. That’s all I know about her because that’s all I ever caught in conversations between him and Spencer Smith.”

“I know who you’re talking about Ryan,” she said as she walked away from him and went to a filing cabinet, pulling out one of the drawers. She sifted through a couple of folders before pulling out and grabbing small piece of paper from her desk. She scribbled something down and put the folder back before she walked to him and slipped the paper in his pocket, kissing the side of his face. “You’ll be okay, Ryan, just hold together, okay?” She said as she lightly squeezed his hand. “You can stay in here until you’ve pulled yourself together, okay?”

Ryan nodded as he sniffled, wiping at his eyes once more. “Hey, Holly, can I ask you something?”

“Isn’t that what I’m here for?” She questioned, smiling up at him.

Ryan gave her a small smile before he looked at his chair. “Why did you keep it? When I haven’t been here for a while?”

“Because, Ryan, I knew you’d be back eventually,” she said before she kissed his cheek once more and headed out of the office, shutting the door behind her.
