1Insightful
I wouldn’t have asked if it was only a question
So many times I wanted to
But I couldn’t, always knowing
You wanted me to carry you

I knew the rule, unwritten, unspoken.
The crime we all knew, all along
To show your weakness, fall behind
Our pride was always much too strong

No one wants to be the one
The last to sign up, the first to fall
We feared it then as we fear now
The silent torment of us all

I was strong when I first left them
My family, waving goodbye
My father led the others home
Before I saw them cry

I wouldn’t ask you just for me
But I think they need to know
That I had someone here with me
To see me safely home

You see the darkness in my eyes
My day is at its end
So promise me, swear to me, my leader, my brother,
My friend.

Before I go-

I’m not asking. I’m praying
They’re my only reason why
Carry me home, what’s left of me,
And tell them not to cry.
