Ryan’s POV
Brendon and I rushed to class in my car. For some reason Sunny went out walking before we were even ready. She had been acting strange lately and that had me worried.
“Ryan?” Brendon said, squeezing my hand as we walked down the hall heading to the music class. “You okay?”
“What?” I looked at his puzzled expression and smiled. “I’m fine, baby. Just a little worried about Sunny.”
“I see... what’s wrong with her?”
“I don’t know.” I said with a sigh. “She hadn’t said anything, but I know something’s up.” I chewed my lower lip.
“Don’t worry so much, she’s probably on her period or something.” Brendon said making me chuckle.
“Actually, she had her period last week, so is not that.” Brendon wrinkled his nose and I laughed.
“I didn’t need to know that! Gross! How do you even know?”
“I live with the girl and I’ve known her all my life! Of course I know!”
“Still gross.” He said shrugging.
“Anyways, this is something else... And she doesn’t wanna tell me!” I stopped, sighing in frustration. “Maybe it’s me. That’s why she doesn’t wanna tell me.” Brendon stopped infront of me.
“Honey, don’t say that! You’re her bff!” He took both of my hands and looked at me. “Why don’t you take her out somewhere? Just the two of you and have a nice chat.” I chewed my lip some more, thinking.
“Well, it has been a while since we did anything together.”
“Maybe that’s what’s wrong. Face it, we spend too much time together!” He said chuckling. I just munched my mouth. “And stop biting your lip! You’re making me nervous!” I stopped and smiled.
“You’re right. I’ll take her out this week. Hope you don’t miss me that much!” I started walking again, holding his hand. He rolled his eyes at me.
“I’ll just call my other boyfriend, don’t worry.” He said with a cocky smile. I slapped his arm.
“Whore!” I said giggling and finally reaching the classroom.
I had to wait till the afternoon class to talk to Sunny again, as she graciously skipped lunch on us, it was the only class I had with her all week. Well, the only one with no Brendon there and for some reason she acted happier when Brendon wasn’t around. I really wanted to know what was wrong with her, she’s my best friend and I’ve never seen her this disconnected from me before which it’s annoying me beyond belief. Besides, I wanted to help her, I wanted to see her smile again. She was my best and only friend to be honest, besides Brendon of course, and it felt too weird to have secrets between us.
Reaching the classroom I spotted her in our favorite corner by the window and sat beside her.
“Hey.”
She looked up blankly. “Hi.”
“I’m hurt, you skipped lunch on me.” I said faking a pout.
“Sorry, I had some other thing to do.” She said vaguely and focused on the park outside again.
I sighed. “Sun, are you sure you’re alright? You haven’t been yourself these days.”
“I’m fine, Ryan, don’t worry.” Sunny said with a small smile, but I noticed she wasn’t looking at me.
“You’re lying. But it’s okay… listen…” I started, shrugging off the fact that I was slightly hurt. “I was wondering if you wanna go out on Saturday.”
She groaned loudly. “I really don’t feel like being the third wheel right now, Ryan. You go out and have a nice time with Bren. I pass.” Sunny started getting her notebooks from her bag as I was a little put off by her reaction.
“I meant just the two of us, Sunshine. No Brendon this time.” I said after gaining my composure back. Sun looked back at me, blankly again, raising an eyebrow.
“Really? You both actually are individuals and can live away from each other?” She said with a half smile. I rolled my eyes.
“Haha. Yes… not for extremely long periods of time, but we manage.” I smiled as she shook her head. “So?”
“Okay, fine, but you’re buying.” She said with a chuckle. I grinned and poked her said, making her jump. “Don’t do that!” I poked her again and she started laughing. “Stop it, you queer!”
“Meany!” I stopped and pouted playfully again as the teacher entered the room.
“But you are a queer.” She pointed out, playing with a pen between her fingers.
“And you love me anyways!” I said sticking my tongue out, pulling what I thought was an adorable face. Sunny didn’t answer, but I didn’t have time to dwell on it as the class started.
