Coal Miners Daughter
“See you later daddy.”
He gives me a slobbery kiss on my cheek.
“Yuck.” I say wiping it off.
“Love you Daddy." I say.
He says it back.
He leaves me to walk to my first grade class room.

I get called to the office in middle of the day.
When I get there I see mommy.
She had been crying.
Why was she crying?
“Honey, I have some bad news.” she said.

“Sweetie dads not coming home.”
She starts to cry all over again.
“I don’t understand.”
“Daddy died sweetie. He’s a safe place called Heaven.”
“How did he die?”
“The ground clasped on him.”

I don’t understand why that happened.
Why were a happy family.
Your guitar is still by my bed.
Waiting for you.
I miss you singing to my.
I leave the light on in case you change your mind,
And come home.

I’m in third grade Daddy.
I got my very own locker now.
It’s red your favorite color.
I’m a big girl now.
I have a picture of you, me, and mommy in it.

Next weeks my birthday.
Mommy says I need to think of some present I want.
The only thing I really want on my birthday is to see you daddy.
I wished for it last year when I blew out the candles,
but I think that this year will be different I can feel it daddy.

There is a boy in my class and he is kind of cute.
I chase him around the playground.
I’m careful about it though.
I don’t want to get boy cootie,
That you always told me about.

I have to go to school now daddy.
I’ll talk to later.
I love & miss you daddy
Don’t forget I’ll always be your little Coal Miners Daughter.
Bye Daddy.
