Oooohhh.....now this is the kind of background that would have really explained why Book chose to become a Shepherd: so much blood on his hands, though I do wonder if he had any suspicions about what secrets River had in her head that led to the use of an Operative when he was talking to Mal during the crew's first shown visit to Haven.
