“Hey there you” the message box flashed up on my screen. I couldn’t help but smile, I hadn’t talked to Frank in months.
“Hey there fat head, whats up? Long time no talk kid!!” I typed back quickly.
“I know I know that’s why I messaged you actually! My dads 50th is on Friday and I wanted to know if you’d come? A few of my buddies are already coming”
“Yeah, sure might as well, haven’t seen ya in ages, what time and where?”
“Mulligans at 8 so =]”
“Righto and get credit as well you fail, I’m sick of getting no reply from you!”
“Sure sure, see yeh then x” and he was gone.
I sat for a few seconds looking at the blinking cursor in the dimmed message box. Strange boy, giving me kisses. I thought that any chance of anything happening between us was truly dead.
I’ve known him for years, my mom worked in his school when he was a kid and she was good friends with his mom so we’ve known each other since the age of five. We didn’t see each other for years until we started hanging out with mutual friends in town. Theres always been that little something between us but its never worked out. I was always with someone else when he was single and vice versa.
I was with my last boyfriend for a year and a half and about 8 months into our relationship I was talking to Frank one night…
“Hey hey hey, Chupta?” I typed when I saw his icon come online.
“Nothin much, just getting ready to go the afters of my aunts wedding in Rochestown park, do you want to come?”
“Cant do love, its too short notice and I don’t think Fin will like it… Next time maybe”
“Aiite, don’t say I didn’t offer!! Ttyl kid!!”
I sighed and signed off and went to bed. When I signed in the next day I two new emails. “Probably junk mail” I muttered to myself.
I opened the first one and my heart stopped as I read it. It was from Frank.
“Hey babe,
As I write this its getting bright outside and I have all the courage I could possibly have, Jack Daniels haa haa. But no, seriously I have something to tell you. I love you. I always have but someone always gets there before me. I should’ a done something before Fin came along but I’m stupid.
So yeah.
x”
I read the next one and it was sent not even a minute after the last one.
“Shiiiate,
I shouldn’t have said anything. Don’t tell fin.
x”
I sat back in the chair and read the words over and over. I grabbed my phone and dialled a familiar number.
“Rois, you’ll never guess what I just got!!”
I read her out the email and waited for her reply.
“I knew it!! I SOOO knew it, you love him too like!!”
“I know, but like I’ve seriously lost all hope like. I thought he just wasn’t interested at all. What the hell like!! He couldn’t’ have said this eight months ago?! Why now?!”
“I don’t know pet but I mean, its not going well between you and Fin anyway so why stay with him?”
“Because Rois, I cant just dump him for someone that’s had 12 years to make a move and only tells me how he feels when hes full of alcohol”
“I guess babe, but if you love him too like. You do what you think you should do.”
“I’m gonna stay with Fin”
“Its your choice babe”
“Okay love, Imma go so I’ll talk to you later”
“Alright love, kisses”
“Kisses”
I hung up the phone just as Frank came online.
“Frank? Did you mean it?” I typed and waited for a response. It was 5 minutes before he started typing.
“You’ve read them I suppose…. I meant it”
“Shit.”
“Yeah, your not going to tell Fin?”
“I cant. I think I love him”
“Oh, Okay”
“I do love you too though”
Nothing for seven minutes
“But your gonna stay with him?”
“I have to”
“Okay, ttyl” and he signed off.
I didn’t talk to him for the next year.
“What the hell Sarah?! Don’t lie, I’ve seen the conversation and the emails, I know your cheating on me with him.”
“You went through my stuff online?! You asshole!!” I threw a glass at his head and it smashed off the wall. “You went too far this time Fin, how dare you go through my stuff, we’re not even going out anymore.”
“I had to because you were being weird with me for the last while.”
“Well duh, I don’t want to be NEAR you anymore. We’ve been broken up for the last four months. Did you even look at the dates on the bloody emails?! They’re from over a year ago.”
“I didn’t have to look at the dates Sarah, hes the reason we broke up. Your going to get with him now and I’ll be left with nothing!!”
“I don’t give a shit about you anymore Fin. I haven’t even talked to Frank in over a year. You’re a fucking nut job, get the hell out of my house!”
“Fine, your such a fucking bitch Sarah, you’ll die on your own cause no one else will have you.”
“JUST GET OUT!” I screeched at him. He turned and left and slammed the door so hard the window panes shuddered.
Fin was the last thing I needed now, I took a deep breath and trudged up the stairs to the ancient computer. I set to work changing all my passwords to my online accounts. I hit start and was about to select shut down when a message box popped up.
“Hey there you” It was Frank.
“Hey there fat head, whats up? Long time no talk kid!!” I typed back quickly.
