The Calm Between the Storms

With coming night,
The storm winds blow
Their final hurrah,
Leaving a blanket of snow.

Mere words cannot describe
The sight that I see.
Precious peace
Stills humanity.

Untouched snow
Lies perfectly
On every yard
And every tree.

Icicles hang from the many rooftops
Framing the picturesque snow,
That sits outside,
Just through my window.

I take in this beauty,
The memories it has cast
Of untouched perfection,
While it still lasts.

For with the alarm clock brings
Hurried thoughts,
As it rings.

Hardly slowed by nature’s white beauty,
The storm of human actions,
Disrupting this new found purity.

Until then I shall see
Sights of the world transformed;
Taking pictures in my mind
Of the calm that lies between the storms.
