I sat in the new glider that Frank had surprised me with as a 'thanks for having my baby' gift singing softly to my unborn child. I was just over five months along now and I sung to the baby everyday. "Rock a bye baby on the tree top, when the wind blows the cradle will rock, when the bough breaks the cradle will fall, down will come baby cradle and all..." I sang. "You should think about doing that professionally." Frank said as he came into the nursery, a can of paint in each hand. "How about not. Is that the paint for the baby's room?" I asked. "No, I bought some soup on the way home. Thought I'd buy a lot since your pregnant." Frank said. "Very funny. Let me see it." I said. He pried open the lid and showed me the pretty butter yellow color I'd picked for the walls. We didn't know if it was a boy or girl yet so we'd gone neutral until we found out and then we'd accentuate with more gender specific colors. "Perfect. When are you going to get started on it?" I asked. "As soon as the Bryar and Toro get over here. They're helping." Frank said. I nodded, "That's good, I cant help because of the fumes." I said. He kissed my head, "I know. Its your job to protect the baby." and I smiled. Frank knelt to the floor and pulled up my shirt to expose my belly. "I love you and I can't wait for you to be here." he said and kissed my stomach. That's when I felt it, "Frank, the baby kicked!" I said. "Really? Where?" he asked. I placed his hand just above my navel and the baby obligingly kicked. "That's incredible." Frank said his eyes alight. "I know. Just think in a few months there will be a tiny being that is the perfect combination of the both of us." I said. "I know." Frank said and kissed me. The doorbell rang downstairs. I sighed and gave Frank one last kiss and headed to meet them at the door.
When I managed to waddle down the stairs Ray, Bob and Tori were standing in the hallway. "Hey guys Frank's upstairs in the nursery." I said. "Thanks Holly." Ray said and kissed me on the cheek and headed upstairs. Bob did the same and fallowed him. "So, how goes the baby making?" Tori asked as I joined her. "Well my feet are swelling, I have to pee every five minuets and last night I managed to chug a whole gallon of purple Kool-Aid but its actually not bad. I just felt the baby kick for the first time." I said. "Ohhhh...really?" Tori said with a smile on her face. "Yeah. It was right after Frank kissed my stomach." I said. "If that isn't just sweet? Just you wait though. Next you'll be getting a foot in the rib and a punch to the kidney at midnight." Tori said as she, with some difficulty lowered her 7 month pregnant body onto the couch. I joined her with a little less difficulty but none too easy either. I had just got comfortable when the doorbell rang. "Why?" I asked. "Life's a bitch?" Tori said and I rolled my eyes and wiggled off the couch. "Hello?" I began to say but the words faltered in my mouth as I saw Trace Cyrus standing on my doorstep.
Trace's POV
Just like I had hoped Holly answered the door. She was just as beautiful as the night I'd last seen her. She had a glow to her that must have been from the baby growing inside of her. I had the urge to reach out and touch the bump that peaked out just slightly from under her shirt. I looked at her, "Hi Holly." I said. Holly looked at me, her eyes wide. Finally she spoke, "Trace what-what are you doing here?" she asked. "Isn't it obvious? I came to see you." I said. "Oh. Well...hi." Holly replied and glanced behind her. I looked past her and saw her best friend Tori sitting on a couch, her stomach bigger than Holly's. She was pregnant too. "Can I come in?" I asked. "NO!" she said quickly making me step back. "I mean...the house is a mess, why don't we step out onto the porch?" she said and walked forward closing the door behind her. "So how have you been?" she asked as she settled down in a rocking chair. "Fine, just recording a new album, doing a couple promo shows. Seems like you've been busy." I said. "Yeah." she said and rubbed her belly absent mindedly. The silence hung thick in the air between us until she finally said something, "Trace what are you doing here? Really?" she asked looking me right in the eye. I couldn't lie to her. "I wanted to ask you, why didn't you tell me about the baby?" I asked. She looked at me funny, "What do you mean why didn't I tell you about the baby? It wasn't any concern of yours and its not like we were friends or anything." she said. "Holly, it's my baby too. I deserved to know." I told her and her face changed from confused to angry. "This is Frank's baby Trace. I've done the math...I conceived the day Frank and I got back together." she said. "You're what? Five months? Five and a half? I've done the math too, it's mine Holly. We had sex, drunken sex but sex none the less." I replied, my temper rising. "Yes Trace we did have sex but we used a condom. I put it in your hand and you put it on. I remember that." She replied. I stopped, she really didn't remember did she? I sighed, "Holly, the condom broke when I was trying to put it on. I told you but you said you didn't care and it happened." I told her replaying the nights events in my head. "No. No you used a condom and we had sex safely. You're lying." she said. "Holly, I’m not lying. There was no condom. That baby is mine." I said. I watched as she turned from an angry red to a sick green to a pail white. "I-I have to go Trace, y-you have to go. Please. Just go." she said and went inside. I looked the door and walked back to my car. It wasn't over yet.
Holly's POV
I leaned against the closed door, my body covered in a cold sweat. I replayed what Trace had said. We hadn't used a condom that night. This baby could be his. My head was spinning and I felt sick. "Holly? What's going on?" Tori asked walking over to me. I opened my mouth to speak but instead lost my lunch all over the floor. The next thing I knew my knees went weak and the floor rushed up under me. "Frank! Ray! Bob! Help!" Tori yelled. Suddenly Frank was kneeling beside me, "Call 911. Honey what's wrong?" Frank asked but before I could respond everything went black.
