"I'm listening,"

Frank stood there, looking at Gerard. Well, he had him there, now was time to say what he had to say! But Frank didn't know what he had to say. Now that Gerard was here in front of him, waiting for him to speak, he had no idea how to convey his thoughts into words.

"Well..." he began. "I--uhh..."

"Well?" Gerard raised an eyebrow expectantly, a master of displaying more courage than he actually felt.

"Well..." Frank repeated, suddenly frozen. His thoughts were clouding with their last meeting, and what Gerard had said. He said it would break his heart for Frank to never speak to him again, so why was he looking at Frank as though he would like him to do just that? "You said...the other day--you said..."

"I know what I said," Gerard finally spoke. "And my feelings haven't changed since then, if that's what you're wondering."

Frank gulped. He had no idea what to say. "Well...then why are you being so cold?" he decided to be blunt. It was the only way to get some real answers, he decided.

"How else am I supposed to act, Frank? I poured my heart out to you and haven't seen or heard from you since then!"

"I've been in prison!" Frank exclaimed.

"I know! I mean, I was embarassed to go back and see you...And now seeing you is just kind of..."

"No, it's not!" Frank interrupted. "Because I feel the same way! I love you too!" It sounded more like an angry outburst than a proclamation of love, but there. He had said it.

"...Don't say that, Frank," Gerard looked away.

"Why not? It's true." He jutted out his lower lip in a stubborn pout. Gerard couldn't help but laugh at how cute it was. "What?" Frank demanded, temper sparked further by what he thought was Gerard making fun of him.

"Nothing," Gerard told him. "You just...nothing."

"Well...What? Do you still have those feelings for me or not?"

"I...do," admitted Gerard, scorning his failed attempt at changing the subject. "I just...I just need to think...I do like you Frank, more than you could know. I just need some time--"

"Time? Time! All you need is time? How about three or four MORE months, Gerard? All this time that you've spent teasing and coming on to me and you're saying you need more? Well, frankly, that's bull shit. Either you like me or you don't, and from the way you're dancing around it, I'd say you don't. You just want to get into my pants, don't you?"

"No, see--"

"Save it, Gerard! I've heard about what you do to 'initiate' the new kids, you think I don't? I hear things around school and around town, did you really think I wouldn't? I just thought--no, I hoped--that you'd feel different about me, Gerard. I thought maybe, just maybe, you had real feelings for me, but I'm just like every other new kid that comes your way: make it so they can't stand to not be around you, to long for the feeling of your touch, ache for the melodic sound of your voice, get them to the point where they can't live without you...and then just toss them out. Isn't that right?"

Gerard hung his head, cheeks burning with shame. "Yes," he mumbled.

"I'm sorry, what was that?"

"Yes! Yes, you're right, okay? That's what I do, it's what I've always done. And you know what, Frank? Every time--every single time--I've begun to grow attached to those guys. And that's how I knew it was time to get rid of them. When I started feeling something, I would toss them out. But you know what else? You're no better than I ever was, right now. What are you doing to me? You're hurting me before I get the chance to hurt you, so don't even try to pretend to be the victim here, when we're all victims! We're all just...victims of love." Every muscle in his body was on edge, and his voice shook with the effort of all the emotion flowing out of him.

Frank gaped at him. Surely he wasn't comparing Frank to himself? Ridiculous, Frank would never do what Gerard had done to those kids...they had been weak, caught off-guard the second they set foot in their new school, played prey for Gerard and his sick games...Frank's blood boiled just at the thought of Gerard thinking that their situations were comparable. "That's total bullshit, Gerard!" he snapped. "You can't even...don't even try--it's not the same thing at all!"

"Oh, isn't it?"

"No! You were in it to hurt those kids from the beginning! For me, hurting you is just an added bonus, I guess." With that, not giving Gerard the chance to retalliate, Frank marched out of the Way household, grinding his jaw and clenching his fists.

Two weeks passed and Frank and Gerard didn't speak a word to each other. Mikey played the middle man during Friday Slasher Movie Night.

"Mikey? Could you ask someone to pass the popcorn?"

"Mikey? Do you think it would be possible for some people to move their Goddamn feet so the rest of us could have some room?"

"Mikey, tell whoever the inconsiderate asshole is that left a mess on the couch to clean it up because it's a real fucking eyesore."

Poor Mikey, he didn't know what to do. How could he choose between his brother and his best friend? He would just shake his head and ignore it, all he could think of to do for now.

Gerard had broken ties with most of his 'friends'. He mostly just kept to himself, occasionally to be seen with Bob Bryar just so he wouldn't have to be alone. Bob was a true friend...right?

It was a dreary day indeed on which Gerard found out just how 'true' of a friend Bob really was...

I know that this chapter is ridiculously short and it took to long to upload for it to be this short, and I'm sorry. I've been incredibly busy with the musical and then now I have a research paper to do about poets and shit, and...gah. Sigh. So yeah. That's me, keeping my Author's Notes short as possible cough cough OverAndOutxx
