“Penelope?” Bob walked into the house calling his fiancée’s name and feeling very guilty. He must have picked at least a dozen different flowers on the way home to decide whether or not he should fill her in on what happened. I tell her, I tell her not. I tell her, I tell her not…

“Yes, honey?” Pen did her best to walk straight as she approached Bob. He didn’t seem to notice anything odd; he seemed preoccupied.

“Penelope, I have something to tell you--”

Pen’s stomach fell through the floor. The grave look on his face told her that it was not good news; he was breaking off the engagement. That was it. That must’ve been it. He’d just spent an hour with Margot, and he had realized how much better he could do than an ex-drug-addict. “I--I--What is it?” She gulped.

Bob took a deep breath and exhaled, preparing himself. It’s like going into a cold pool; you just have to jump in. “I--”

“Hello!” At that moment, through the door walked three very familiar faces: those of Mikey, Gerard, and Frank. Aunt Maggie trailed behind them excitedly, babbling introductions. They all hugged her and then continued into the kitchen where Bob and Pen were standing, the tension tight between them.

“What are you guys doing here?” Pen asked, totally perplexed.

“Bob invited us,” Mikey offered, hugging a still very-confused Pen.

“You did?” Pen turned her attention back to her fiancé. More secrets? Once Pen was agitated, every little thing began to frustrate her.

“I thought I’d surprise you, honey,” Bob said, trying to sell her on the idea.

Pen just rubbed her face for a moment. She already had enough problems here; she didn’t need three of the people who knew her best thrown into the mix along with it. Three? “Where’s Ray?”

“He’s busy being married,” Frank said nonchalantly.

Pen took a big breath, and just as she was about to rip one on Bob for going behind her back and inviting the guys, Margot walked in the house. She slowly walked into the kitchen, hugging Bob, who went stiff and pulled away. Margot narrowed her eyes, hoping Pen had seen; she hadn’t.

“Hubba hubba!” Frank sidled up to Margot, running his hand through his hair and winking. “Well, hello there!” He held out his hand for Margot, who looked at the 5’2” man from her 5’8” stature with disdain.

“Charmed. Pipsqueak,” she added under her breath. Frank’s jaw dropped, as did Pen’s.

“Oh, no,” Pen clenched her fists and began to march toward Margot with a murderous glint in her eyes.

“C’mon, honey,” Bob said hurriedly, grabbing Pen’s shoulders and pulling her into a tight embrace. “Let’s go…get a glass of water. At the sink. Over there.” He led his fiancée to the sink and splashed cold water on her hands. “Calm down,” he murmured. “Margot was just kidding. Right, Margot?”

“Oh, of course, Bobby,” she said with a huge smile plastered on her face. She flipped back her long blonde hair. “I love your friends. They all seem so nice.” She held out her hand to Gerard, ignoring both Mikey and Frank. “I’m Margot. Bob’s probably told you al about me.”

“Actually,” Gerard said, pretending not to notice her outstretched hand. “He’s never mentioned you.” He already didn’t like her, and from what Frank had relayed to him, she wasn’t a very likeable person. In fact, she seemed intent on breaking up Bob and Pen; that could not happen.

Margot dropped her hand, but not her smile. “Oh, well…Who bothers to mention childhood friends, right?” She shrugged. “What’s your name, anyway?”

“Gerard,” he said curtly.

“Oh, I love that name!” she squealed, causing Gerard to take a hasty step backwards.

“Uh…yeah…”

Pen nearly puked. Honestly? Was Margot really moving on that quickly from Bob to Gerard in the span of a snap of the fingers of fate? As much as she despised Margot all the more for being so phony, Pen had to admit that she felt a bit of relief that Margot had targeted a new prey. Still, Pen thought she might enjoy messing with Margot a bit.

“Oh, Gerard,” Pen asked suddenly, going up to her friend. “How’s your girlfriend? What’s-her-name…” She winked quickly and Gerard smirked.

“Oh…Uh…you mean--Eliza?” Gerard’s improvisation skills needed a bit of honing, obviously.

“Yeah, that one. How’s she doing?”

“Well…she’s great. I love her, y’know,” Gerard laughed awkwardly, making Pen cringe with how awful of an actor he was. It was so funny, though, she had to bite down on her lower lip to keep from bursting out laughing. Margot was standing with her hip cocked and her arms crossed, a sour expression on her face. She turned to Mikey.

“Hi, I’m Margot.”

Pen didn’t realize it at the time, but it was at that moment that she felt the tiniest pang of jealousy. Her fists clenched when Mikey shook Margot’s hand and introduced himself.

Ahh, a lovely Sunday morning. The sky is dark, the grass is still covered with dew, and it's a lovely 4:49 in the morning. Why am I up so early, you ask? It's a simple explanation, really. I'm leaving to go to Universal with a few of my friends in about 40 minutes. Road-trip, anyone? Granted, Universal, Orlando is only about...3 hours north of here, but it's still a good idea to leave early so that we can get there when the park opens. So yeah, I wanted to update before I left since I knew I'd be a slacker and not do it immediately when I got back. So...yeah. My spring Break is starting out swimmingly, how is/was yours? Awesome Possums. See you in a few days. OverAndOutxx
