Cyrinda's POV
I'm sitting on the couch, watching the end credits to the show All In The Family. Another episode is going to show. I looked at the clock.
7:30. I let out a sigh and leaned back into the couch. I'm very bored right now. I'd go outside, but it's really cold. It began snowing. I got up from the couch to look outside the window. I saw piles of snow on cars and on the ground. Seeing all that snow made me think of the little "road trip" I had.
Do you really want to know what happened? Okay well I drove to Manhattan, New York to visit my parents. I wanted to talk to my parents because I want to have a relationship with them. I also wanted to let them know they are now grandparents. They still lived in the same city and in the same house. I know that because I always call my grandparents. Anyway, I parked my car on the driveway to the house I used to live in. I walked up the steps and knocked on the door. The door opened. A little girl answered the door. I think she was 11 or 12 years old.
"Who is that, dear?" I heard a woman call out. I looked at the little girl. She looked back at me. Then a woman appeared behind her.
"Cyrinda, is that you?" The woman asked. I slowly nodded my head and looked back at the car. Candice is still sleeping in her car seat. I looked back at them. The little girl had left back, but my mom was still there.
"So uh, How have you been?" My mom asked. She still looked the same even though I haven't spoke or seen her since I had graduated high school. After I graduated high school, I left to college in Yonkers, New York. I called my parents a few times, but they never answered the phone. They never returned my calls even though I left them messages.
"I've been great. I hav-"
"Why don't you come inside?" My mom interrupted. Typical mom.
"Okay. I have to get something from car though. I'll be right back." I walked back to the car to get Candice. I took the car seat out of the car and walked back to the front door. My mom had left and the little girl was back. She told me to come inside. She spoke in a very low voice. Once I was inside, she closed the door and led me to the living room. She told me to sit on the couch and wait for my mother to come back out. Who is this girl? I sat down and looked at Candice, who was still sleeping. A minute later, my mom appeared from the hallway. She sat down next to me and looked at Candice. Nothing has changed. Everything still looks the same. My mom still wears the same brand of clothes and the same type of perfume.
"What's her name?" My mom asked.
"Her name is Candice."
"That's a cute name. Who's baby is she? I can't believe your still babysitting."
Babysitting? I never had time to babysit when I was a kid. I was too damn busy working on my school work and cleaning up their fuckin' mess.
"She's mine." I replied and looked at my mom to look at the expression on her face. She looked very surprised.
"Where's the dad?" She paused and sighed "He left didn't he?" She asked in a serious tone. That question made me think of Joe. I wish he was here with me, but I didn't want him to meet my parents. They don't like guys like him. They would probably perfer a guy who went and graduated college, like Harvard. Joe never went to college.
"No! He's back at home."
"Why didn't he come with you? Is he hitting you?"
"No! He wouldn't do that." I paused and began thinking about it. He wouldn't hit me... Right? Nah, he wouldn't. "Any more questions?"
"Yeah, Why didn't you tell us about him? Your father, Sadie and I would like to meet him."
Sadie? Who the fuck is Sadie? I gave my mom a confused look "Sadie?"
Right after I said that, the little girl who had answered the door, appeared.
"Cyrinda meet Sadie."
I looked at my mom and then at Sadie. I stayed quiet.
"Sadie, this is my daughter." My mom pointed at me.
"I thought I was an only child!" Sadie pouted and stomped her foot on the ground.
My mom ignored Sadie and told me more about her. Turns out Sadie is 13 years old. I couldn't believe it.
"Why didn't I see her when she was a baby?"
My mom stayed quiet.
"Why?"
"Turns out, your father was the one who was working. I never worked, I never had a job in my entire life. Your father and I had a house across town. We had a maid take care of Sadie when we would come back here."
I became so confused. Then I became angry at my parents. I stood up from the couch, picked up the car seat and walked towards the door. My mom followed me.
"Don't leave. I'm sorry!"
I couldn't believe what I just heard. She's apologizing to me!
"Sorry?" I said in a cold tone "Sorry? Mom... wait why am I calling you that?! You're a monster! I can't believe you never told me about her. You guys never cared about me. You guys never wanted me! I hate you guys so much! I can't believe I came from this... Sick family!"
"You don't understand!" She sighed.
"Oh I don't understand?! Whatever! Just admit it, you and dad never cared about me!" I angrily sighed and glared at her.
"Of course we care about you!"
"Really? Well, why did I spend all my time cleaning up you and dad's mess when I could've been out with my friends? I never got a chance to see you guys."
She stayed quiet and looked down at her feet.
"You make me sick to the pit of my stomach. I hate you so much. You and Dad are horrible parents. You two should be ashamed of yourselves." I looked at Sadie "I don't know how you can call this woman "mom." She doesn't deserve to be called that."
I took one last look at the both if them. I sighed and shook my head at them. I opened the door, walked out and closed the door. I walked to the car, and put Candice in the back seat. I got in the car and took one last look at the house before backing out and driving away. I stayed at my mom's parents house for a week before taking off. I love my grandparents, they are the best. They attended my high school graduation. They took pictures and I am in awe. I changed so much. Anyway, I never graduated college. I dropped out my junior year. It was a stupid decision but whatever.
On my trip,I went to a lot of places. I went to Niagara Falls, New York City and a lot of other places. I took a lot of pictures. All those pictures are in a photo album I have in my car. Other than that dreadful visit to my "parents" house, I had a lot of fun. Candice had fun too. She loves New York City. I can't tell you what exactly she liked because I would just go all day telling you guys the things she liked. Jeez, did that make sense? I also got to visit my friends from college. I miss them, but the good thing is I have their phone numbers, so if I'm upset or want someone to talk to, I can just call up my friends!
Right now, I'm still looking out the window. During the trip, it snowed so much. So that's why the snow outside made me think of the "road trip" I had. I'm still upset about my "parents." How could they do that to me? No wonder why they never attended my graduating. They were too busy with Sadie. I hate them so much! I don't hate Sadie though. She called my grandparents house a day after I first met her and she seemed pissed off. She told me she always wanted to have a sister and now that she knows about me, she couldn't be any happier. Although, Sadie thinks it's messed up how my "parents" ignored me. Yeah, it is.... Messed up. Then I became upset, so upset, I began crying. I wiped my tears away and deeply sighed. Then I felt someone put their hands on my hips...
