“Ah Mr Way” Gerard turned to see a grey haired man enter the room. “It’s nice to see you again, and of course you too Michael”.

“Hey Doc” replied Gerard politely. He had managed to avoid Mikey’s doctor until now. Gerard hated talking to the doctor, he might have held a position of distinct power in society, but Gerard couldn’t help but feel he was completely wrong about so many things.

“It seems you’ve been visiting a lot lately Mr Way” smiled the doctor.

“He is my brother” shrugged Gerard. Mikey was family, blood, and that meant that Gerard would do anything for him.

“And I am sure Michael enjoys your visits” continued the doctor. “They seem to brighten his mood a lot” he added. Gerard knew that his visits only brightened Mikey’s moods on good days, on the bad days they only seemed to dampen his own.
“You know what time it is Michael” smiled the doctor. Mikey just nodded. Gerard hated this time of the day, he hated it with a passion.

“Does he really need all those pills?” asked Gerard. Flash backs of his earlier life came back to him. He knew that most of the time the pills really didn’t have any desired effect, most of the time they just made things worse.

“At this stage, it is best for him, although I am hoping in the future Michael will not have to be so heavily medicated” replied the doctor, handing Mikey a little cup with his pills in it and a cup filled with water. Mikey took both, putting the small cup on the table and taking one pill out at a time. He never took them all at once. His behaviour always amused his doctor.

“Well Mikes, I better go” said Gerard, giving his younger brother a hug. “I’ll come by tomorrow, I promise”. Mikey just nodded in response. Gerard left the room without another word. He was halfway down the corridor before the doctor’s voice interrupted him.

“Mr Way, before you go I’d like to have a word” said the doctor, catching up to him, “if you don’t mind, of course”.

“As long as you’re quick” replied Gerard, pretending to smile. He hated hospitals. “I have some more things I need to attend to”.

“I just wanted to know how you were doing” replied the doctor. “You’ve never come back to see me, or asked for another prescription” he continued. “In cases like yours, I feel that being in constant contact with your doctor is paramount”.

“Are you checking up on me?” asked Gerard. This was the last thing he wanted, or needed. He hated that this is what the doctor thought was needed.

“Well, as you know, these things are best managed with a little help at first, of course, in the future it will get easier” the doctor started.

“Look Doc, I appreciate everything you’re doing, but I’m fine” snapped Gerard. “I stopped taking those pills because I didn’t like what they were doing to me, okay, I wasn’t myself. Other than that small detail, everything else is fine, a lot better in fact. You have no need to worry” he added. “I promise you, if I need any help I’ll contact you”.

“If you insist” nodded the doctor. “I shall see you tomorrow” he smiled, returning to Mikey’s room. Gerard let out a sigh as he continued on his way. Things just didn’t seem to be going his way right now. Sometimes it never felt like they were going his way.

“What a fucking pussy” yelled Bob, “the dumb fuck can’t even stay on his feet for two seconds”.

“I don’t know why you watch that shit” replied Gerard. “I mean, come on, it’s just a pair of fancy dressed fucktards groping each other”.

“Groping each other badly” laughed Bob. “We both know where the real action takes place anyway” he added.

“Haven’t been in a while though” replied Gerard, eyes fixed on the screen in front of him. The wrestling that was on the TV was nothing, nothing compared to the things they had seen.

“Yeah, our boy Ray had to shut it down for a little while, Frankie got a little bit too carried away and offed another dumb jerk” shrugged Bob.

“Wouldn’t be the first time” sighed Gerard. “Or the last” he shrugged.

“How’s your new doll going?” asked Bob, not averting his eyes from the TV.

“She’s still alive” shrugged Gerard. “For whatever reason, she’s not begging for her life. Not even close to giving in, or up. I’m contemplating just killing her now, waiting for her to give up might take a long time. Besides which, she doesn’t seem any closer to breaking”.

“Yeah, she’s a bit different that one” agreed Bob. “Her Boy barely lasted a week” he continued.

“He was as weak as fuck” laughed Gerard. “He was basically begging for it in the end”.

“Well he got it” smiled Bob. “Are you really just going to off her?”

“Maybe, I mean, fuck, I wasn’t thinking of keeping her around this long” sighed Gerard. “Maybe my read on her was completely wrong”.

“Well, no one is looking for her” shrugged Bob. “So I don’t think there is any rush to get rid of her. Besides, having a woman around might be a little bit useful”.

“Well, she does have a few uses” replied Gerard.

“More so, she’s a bit of a punching bag for your moods” added Bob.

“True” replied Gerard. “Mikey’s doctor offered me more medication today” he added. Bob was a safe place to vent anything.

“Why?” asked Bob. “That medication just fucked you up even more”.

“Exactly, so I declined” replied Gerard. “Although, I think he might be watching us”.

“What? Why?” asked Bob.

“He just seemed a little too interested in me” replied Gerard. “I guess it just means we need to be a little more careful”.

“I guess our house guest is having a lucky break, because with eyes on you there is no room to finish her just yet” said Bob, running his hands through his hair.

“I was thinking the same. It’s either that or kill her now, but I think there is some more fun to be had with her yet” smiled Gerard.

“This does mean you need to keep your temper in check” sighed Bob. “We can’t really afford to have you blowing up”.

“I agree” nodded Gerard. “We can still have fun though”.

“We sure can” smiled Bob.

*******

I don’t know how long it had been since either of them had come in to see me. I felt like I had cried out all my tears, there was nothing left in me to cry out. I felt like I was broken. Here I was the centre of this horrific nightmare and I was lost, I had no idea who I was anymore. I can’t remember where this nightmare started and my life ended, but I was in this strange limbo. I knew, deep down I knew, that I would never get out of here alive.
I had not moved from the corner, I sat here, with my legs to my chest. Part of me wanted it all to be over, part of me wanted to fight, and another part of me wanted to know why.
My thoughts of insecurity were interrupted by the door opening. I don’t think I had been out of this room for a few days. My eyes drifted to the door, my heart racing and my stomach churning.
“Come with me” Gerard voice interrupted the silence I was so comfortable in. I knew not to disobey him, after our last experience, I knew I had to do whatever he said.
I followed him once again, down a corridor and into the bathroom. The bath was full of hot soapy water. Gerard turned to face me; he pulled the torn shirt over my head and motioned for me to get into the bath.
I did so without a word, letting the hot water engulf my sore, tired limbs. He sat down on a chair, placed near the door, and watched me once again. This time I knew he would not move, there was determination in his eyes.
“Relax” he breathed. “Nothing is going to happen”. Judging by the look in his eyes, for now I could trust him. The warm water was a comfort I had forgotten.

“I don’t know why you don’t just kill me” I whispered. “If you dislike me so much...”

“Sugar I don’t dislike you” laughed Gerard. “I chose you for a reason, there is always a reason”. He sighed.
“Look, you’ve lasted a hell of a lot longer than any other person has in my life, so just take that as aa sign” he said, looking down at the floor. “For now you are safe here, providing you obey by the rules that are set”. I looked at him in confusion.
“For whatever reason, you are here to stay” he said with a nod.

“But why me?” I asked, confusion washing over me.

“Why not you?” he replied. “From the moment I saw you I was drawn to you. I waited a long time to make this happen, and it seems, it is going to stay this way for a lot longer than I intended. I am more than happy to allow this”.

“Besides Bob, does anyone else know I am here?” I asked. I was growing a little more daring with each question, testing the boundaries, trying to gather some sort of awareness for where I was and what I was dealing with. Everything was still so much of a blur.

“No one” he smiled to himself. “That’s what makes it so perfect”. I nodded, I guess it was true. I didn’t expect anyone to be looking for me. My job was replaceable, and my boyfriend was apparently dead.

“I suppose no one is looking for me either” I sighed.

“Who is there to look for you?” asked Gerard. “You have no family, your boyfriend is dead, and to everyone else you knew, you were replaceable”.

“You really do know everything about me” I said softly.

“Every single detail” he replied. “You should know, when I do something I do it right”.

“How long will you keep me alive?” I asked him.

“As long as it pleases me” he shrugged.

“What about if someone comes to visit?” I asked. I had at least gathered that I was in a house, a rather run down house, but a house nonetheless. Surely someone was bound to call eventually.

“No one ever calls around here” he smiled.

“What about your family?” I asked. That seemed to have struck a nerve; I saw anger flare in his eyes. He took a deep breath.

“Like I said, no one ever calls around here” he replied, his tone even, but I could hear the annoyance in his voice. I had asked something out of bounds, clearly family was a subject I was not to ask about.

“Where is here?” I asked.

“You don’t need to know” he replied again, his tone unchanging. “In fact, there are many things you don’t need to know”.

“What do I need to know?” I asked. The water was slowly loosing its heat. I don’t know how long we had been sitting here; I no longer had an accurate sense of time.

“Not many things” he sighed. “You need to know that what I say goes no exceptions. I will easily kill you should you disobey me, or make a futile attempt to escape. You will only ever talk to Bob or myself, unless I see fit to introduce you to anyone else. I see that as a highly unlikely occurrence. For now you are to stay in your room”. I nodded, showing that I understood what he was saying. Nothing was going to change, except the fact that they were not going to kill me straight away. I was still trapped here.
“You’d also do good to stay on my good side” he added. “As you can tell, when I am angry, bad things happen”. I nodded again, remembering the events from not long ago. I rubbed at the fading bruises on my skin. “Sometimes people only learn the hard way though” he added once more.
The rest of my bath was had in silence. Neither of us spoke, everything that needed to be said had been said.
I finished my bath, wrapping myself in a towel. Gerard led me back to the room.

“Goodnight Bella” he said, closing the door. I looked around the room, nothing had changed. The room was still the same, there was one tiny difference. There was a pair of shorts and a t-shirt waiting for me on the bed.
I dressed quickly and curled up in bed. I didn’t have time to think before I fell asleep. I wanted to dream of something nice, I needed an escape from this weird nightmare.
