Part Five
Patrick's POV
The next morning I woke up early, hoping to work on the song that Kel and I were going to sing together. I was careful, trying not to wake her or Farrah up as I stumbled out of bed and got dressed. I had brought over a lot of my clothes, knowing I was probably going to spending the night often. I made a quick run over to the band's hotel room (no one in that room was going to be awake at 7:30 in the morning) and grabbed my guitar. I walked back to her hotel room, still being as quiet as possible. I caught a glimpse of her naked body on the bed as I walked in, sheets pulled over half of her, laying there like a graceful art statue. She had a radiating beauty that seemed to shine at its brightest in the morning.
I knew the living room had to be the farthest away from the bedroom, so I dragged my stuff to the middle of the room. I pulled out a notebook and pen from inside my guitar case, sitting down on the living room sofa, knowing I was going to have go rewrite a few lyrics and run them past Pete before I started anything else. I didn't plan on changing the arrangement, but I was willing to change the key it was in, depending on her voice and whether she could sing it or not. I had two ideas. One involved rewriting the one song and recording it. The other was just writing an entirely new song and not give a flying fuck what the DJ wants. With my mind running at 100 mph, I was almost positive that I could pull off both. I soon regained my focus, knowing I had to get the rewrite done first.
I wrote for what seemed like ages. Half of it was what I was supposed to be doing; the rewrite, and the rest of it was scribbles of phrases that popped into his head.
I realized more and more when I was rereading what I had done so far that I had changed nothing. I just added in her vocals, and changed a few "I's" to "You's". I threw the notebook down, frustrated with what I had accomplished. Fuck it. I'm not going to write my own song, I thought to myself. I'm going to find a song to do a cover of that could be changed into a duet. That sounds so much easier than having to deal with this fucking writer's block. I grabbed my guitar and picked at the strings softly to "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", trying to think of what song to use. I soon got bored. I took my guitar and set it next me, sitting there in boredom. I could sing, instead of playing, I thought to myself. I couldn't sing loudly, or I would wake Kel, but...I can sing softly. Not a problem.
"Wise men say only fools rush in
but I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you"
I sang softly, hoping not to wake her, but as I sat on the sofa with my eyes closed, I heard a beautiful voice come into the room that caused me to stop singing.
"Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
some things are meant to be
take my hand, take my whole life too
for I can't help falling in love with you"
I opened my eyes to see Keliah standing there in her robe, hair gently falling on her should blades, looking at me. She began to walk towards me as we both continued to sing,
"Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
some things are meant to be
take my hand, take my whole life too
for I can't help falling in love with you
for I can't help falling in love with you."
I felt like I was in a movie. It was so strange seeing things happen like this in real life. It was surreal.
"That...was...perfect." I said, finally coming to terms with what I'd just stumbled upon. "That's going to be it. That's our duet song!"
She sat down on the sofa next to me with a puzzled look on her face.
"What are you talking about?"
"Oh, crap, I never told you, did I? Some DJ asked for us to rerecord one of our songs and add a female voice to it, but I was too lazy to do it now, so I started singing that randomly, and then you came in and...it was amazing. That'll be the song we record. We'll do another one of a Fall Out Boy song, but this one is it. I gotta call Pete."

Keliah's POV
Patrick was genuinely excited about this. I smiled as I watched him leap off the sofa and grab his phone from his pants pocket.
"Hey, Pete? Yeah. We need the studio this afternoon. I found the song we're going to sing. No...it's not one of our songs, you can rewrite the one we're going to do, but this is better. It just needs to be recorded that's all. Alright. You are awesome, dude. See you in a bit."
I looked at him as he put the phone back in his pocket.
"So, what did Pete say?"
"He's at the studio now, with the rest of the guys so he said we can come over A.S.A.P and record it. So, get up, get dressed, make yourself even more beautiful than you are now, and we shall sing our duet!" He lifted me up from the sofa, honeymoon style, and set me back in the bedroom to get dressed.
"That's amazing! I'll be out in just a sec."

Patrick's POV
I waited in the kitchen for Kel, and soon enough, Farrah stumbled in. Mornings were not her thing. I could tell from the look on her face and the way her hair looked.
"Well, good morning sunshine." I said, holding out a cup of coffee to her.
"Yeah, I'm sure I look totally amazing right now." she said, rolling her eyes. "Thank you for the coffee, though."
"Ah, don't put yourself down. You look better than most people in the mornings. You should see Pete. He looks like hell in the morning. He doesn't sleep though, which probably has something to do with it, but he still looks like shit. It's pretty funny." I said, trying to be reassuring.
"Yeah. I've always been jealous of Kel because of the way she looks in the morning. It always looks like she hasn't moved all night, and her hair just, falls into place. Unfortunately, she just doesn't have my amazing bone structure." she said, laughing a little.
"Now come on, you're both beautiful in your own little ways. You both look so drastically different, it's hard to compare you two equally. You're a blonde, she's a redhead. You have blueish eyes, and she's got these deep...dark...chocolate colored, beautiful eyes..." I said, dreamily. I shook my head quickly. "Sorry. Got carried away."
There was an awkward silenced between us. Farrah quietly drank her coffee and looked at me as we both leaned back on the kitchen counter.
"You really love her, don't you?"
"Yes, I do."
"I don't mean to act like her mother, but what are your intentions? You're not just going to leave her and forget her when this vacation is finished, right?"
"Oh god, no. I couldn't do that to her. Not now, not ever."
"If you don't plan on leaving her...then are you going to marry her?"
"Well, maybe not now. But someday, yes, probably. I want to spend the rest of my life with that girl, even if it becomes the death of me."
She nodded and sipped her coffee again. "Wow. No offense, because I love your band to pieces, but when she heard your voice and said she wanted to meet you, I was really worried, thinking that if she met you, you would leave her disappointed. But, from the sounds of what you two do in that bedroom, she doesn't sound disappointed at all. I'm impressed."
I blushed. "You could hear all that?"
"The walls are not sound-proof, Patrick, I'm sorry to say. It's fine though. I don't care that much. It's not that I like hearing it, it's more of a "I'm used to it" kind of thing. I had a whore of a roommate a few years ago and I heard her ALL the time. So don't worry about it." she smiled.
"We'll try to keep it down." I laughed.
She grinned at me and put her empty coffee mug in the sink. "Where are the two of you headed so early anyways?"
"We're going to meet the guys at the studio and we're going to sing together on a track. Would you like to join us? I'm sure the guys would love to see you there." I said, thinking back to Joe and Andy's argument. I had to see how this was gonna go down. I didn't think it was right, but what the hell. Let them pick their own battles, I suppose.
"Oh, can I? I've always wanted to be inside a real studio. I'll be back in just a second." and with that, she ran off to her room and shut the door.
Right on beat, Kel's door opened and her beautiful figure walked into my view.
"God damn, you look gorgeous." I said, biting my lip.
"Well, thank you. You don't look too bad yourself, Mr. Stump." she said, pouring herself a cup of coffee.
"You...should definitely call me that more often." I said, biting my lip even harder. "It sounds sexy coming out of your mouth. It's just creepy when interviewers say it."
"I'll be sure to make a note of that. I heard Farrah get up, where'd she go?"
"I invited her to come with us. Andy and Joe have a little crush on her, so their gonna try and see who'll get her first, and I wanted to see what would happen. A little selfish on my part, but she wanted to go anyways."
"Ah, love, selfish love." she said, leaning back onto my chest, head on my shoulder.
I stroked her hair and we both waited for Farrah to come out so we could get going.
"Alright, alright, I'm ready, let's go." Farrah said, grabbing her purse and heading towards the door. She was wearing a short skirt and a tight top. Andy and Joe are going to lose their heads.
---------------------
I hopped into the driver's seat of my Honda Civic, Kel sat in the passenger seat, and Farrah sat behind her. I revved the car up, and headed out. Subsequently, once the car was on, the stereo started playing my CD mix that I had. The last song was just ending, so I just left it in, letting the song finish, and ignored it. The song eventually ended and the next one started playing, and the guitar chords were oh-so familiar to my fingers. It was "I Wanna Be Your Lover" by Prince. I quickly turned it off. "Sorry about that."
Kel and Farrah stared at me in confusion. Farrah decided to speak up first.
"PATRICK, ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!" she screamed from the backseat, making me jump a little. "WHY WOULD YOU TURN THAT OFF?!?!"
Kel soon followed suit, just...not as loudly. "Yeah! That's our song! What gives?"
I stared at the road and was trying to find words to say. I couldn't think of anything. I soon sputtered out, "You two like Prince?"
Farrah quieted down a little. "No...I'm yelling like this because I like AC/DC. Of course, we do! What, don't you?"
I started to regain my senses as the situation sunk in. "Hey," I snapped. "I have an unhealthy obsession with Prince. Don't question my love for Prince." I said, shaking my finger at her, not looking off the road.
"Good." she said. "Then turn the damn song back on!"
I reached for the play button and pressed it, listening to the music blaring through my speakers.
"I wanna be your lover
I wanna be the only one that makes you come running
I wanna be your lover
I wanna turn you on, turn you out, all night long, make you shout
Oh, lover! Yeah...
I wanna be the only one you come for"
Farrah and Kel started singing along. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat as Kel sang the song at the top her lungs. Her voice was enough to get me going, and she knew it. I tried to take a deep breath and focus on the road, but it wasn't working. I ignored it for awhile, which worked, but by the end of the song, she was hitting those notes perfectly, and I almost couldn't take it. Luckily, we pulled up next to the studio right at the end of the song, and I switched it off quickly. "We're h-here!" I said shakily.
Farrah's eyes lit up excitedly, and she opened the car door, running inside, leaving Kel and I in the car alone.
"Are you alright? You look pale."
Without thinking, I pulled her face close to mine and kissed her hard. I felt her hands grab my neck and she kissed me back firmly. Her tongue slipped into my mouth, making me moan in the back of my throat. I moved my hand with urgency, gliding my hand across her chest, resting on her breast. We kissed for what seemed like ages, but we eventually broke apart.
She breathed heavily. "What...was that for?"
"I don't know. For being...sexy." I said nervously, pushing up my glasses.
"What did I do that was sexy?"
I leaned over and kissed her on the lips quickly again. "You sang."
She smiled a blinding white smile at me and I grinned.
"Come on, we should go in. God knows what they're saying about us in there." I said.
I got out of the car, walked around the car and opened her door for her. She stepped out of the car, taking my hand in hers as I shut the door behind her.
-----------------------
"Ah, finally, the couple of the hour!" Pete yelled, looking up from his phone. Andy and Joe were already both talking to Farrah. I felt bad for her; she looked like she was going to be pinned to a wall the way they were advancing towards her.
"So, what is this mysterious song that you're going to sing?" Pete asked, motioning for the guys to give up their battle for a second and join the conversation. Farrah took the chance and escaped the two of them, quickly heading towards us.
I shrugged. "It's 'Can't Help Falling In Love' by Elvis. You guys know it. I've warmed up to it a few times."
Joe smiled. "I love that song, dude. This is gonna sound awesome. We all know to play that right?"
The rest of them nodded in agreement.
Pete looked back down at his phone, then closed it and placed it in his front pocket. "Alright then. We'll all record our parts separately and then we'll have you two record your vocals together."
"Sounds like a plan." I said, as Joe grabbed his guitar proclaiming that he would record his part first. Andy then went into a rant about how the drums are the backbeat and are necessary to record first. It was kinda humorous to watch. Pete broke it up eventually, sending Andy into the recording booth. Joe threw his hands up and put his guitar back on it's stand. I walked over to the chairs in the back of the studio and Kel and Farrah followed me. Kel sat at the end, and I sat between her and Farrah. Of course, Joe quickly took the seat next to Farrah and struck up a conversation. I took my arm and placed it around Kel's shoulders, letting her head rest on my chest. I kissed the top of her head and whispered, "Don't worry. This usually doesn't take long. All three of them get stuff done in like, one take. It's me that takes ages."
"Well, singing is more difficult to control than playing an instrument. I know. So they can suck it." she said defiantly.
"That's right, you can play ukulele can't you? You should play on the track!"
"I don't know if I can..."
"Can you read chords?"
"Yeah..."
"Then everything will be fine. Hey, Pete!"
Pete looked up from his phone. "Yeah?"
"Find the chords to this song online."
"On it."
"And Joe?"
Joe stopped talking to Farrah for a second. "What?"
"Are there any ukuleles in our instrument room?"
"Um...I think so, yeah. There was a blue one hanging up last time I was in there."
"Good. Come on, I've got to get my guitar anyways."
I got up and took her hand in mine as I led her to the guitars. Joe watched us walk by and did the same thing to Farrah, trying his hardest to impress her. I opened the door and I heard her gasp. She looked at the the dozens of guitars hanging up and setting on stands in the room with her mouth open. I walked down to the end of the room and ran my hands over the guitars like each one were old lovers.
"Ha! Found it. Joe was right. Here it is." I pulled down the bright blue ukulele and handed it to her. She ran her hands over it like I had done to the guitars, and I bit my lip, thinking about what those gentle hands had done the past few days.
"This is perfect." she smiled, playing random chords. "Sounds way better than the one I have."
I walked over to my beloved Stump-O-Matic. I ran my hands over the neck of the guitar and slung the strap over my shoulder, letting the guitar hang.
"You can have it, if you'd like." I said.
"What? No, I couldn't-"
"Kel, nobody else here plays ukulele, and people send us random instruments and guitars all the time. It's ours to give. And I'm giving it to you."
Those dark brown eyes stared at me for awhile, almost trying to detect whether I was bluffing or not about the ukulele.
"Well..I guess...if you're sure."
"I am."
"Then...thank you!"
She ran up to me and I threw my guitar to my back quickly as she threw her arms over my shoulders and kissed me. I rested my arms just above her hips, longing to go further, but restraining myself, knowing there were others in the room.
Joe and Farrah were at the collection of guitars, Joe showing them off, trying to impress her.
Farrah looked over at Kel and I as we pulled apart and her eyes got wide when I put the guitar back to the front of me.
"Oh. My. God. That's the Gretsch Corvette Stump-O-Matic Electromatic guitar!" she squealed.
I laughed and held onto the guitar. "Ha, yep. It is. You've heard of the guitar? I hardly hear anyone call it by it's full name."
Farrah walked towards me, completely ignoring Joe and Joe started hitting his head against the wall behind him.
"I love that guitar. Can I touch it?"
"Yeah, I guess so." I held it out away from me so she could run her hands over the strings and the body of the guitar.
"Wow. It's even cooler to see in person."
"Yeah, it's a pretty awesome guitar, I'll admit."
Soon enough, we all walked out of the room as Joe held the door open. I was last to walk out and I turned to Joe nervously.
"Dude, I didn't mean for her to come over to me and my guitar-"
"It's fine, man. It wasn't you that entranced her interest, it was the guitar. Damn that guitar for being such a chick-magnet." He said as he pointed fiercely at the Stump-O-Matic.
I pulled the guitar away from him, holding it in mock protection. "Hey, be nice to my guitar. It's not its fault that it happened to be more shiny than you."
Joe shook his head. "This is gonna be a long battle."
-------------------
Keliah's POV
I sat there cross-legged on a chair and strummed on the ukulele to warm up a bit. I looked at the sheet music Pete found for me on his laptop and started to play. The chords were fairly simple, C, Em, Am, then F, C, and G. A lot of basic stuff. Pete swung around on his chair, and commented, "Hey, you sound pretty damn good on that thing for it being nothing more than a ukulele."
"Don't doubt the hidden powers of the ukulele, Pete."
"Oh, I'm not doubting anything, not after hearing that."
"Good. Glad to hear it."
Joe and Patrick walked in from the instruments room and sat down. Andy was out of the room, twirling his drumstick in his fingers, and had already started in on impressing Farrah for himself. Joe was about to go over and separate them but Pete held him back.
"Nope, dude, you're up next. Then me, then Keliah by herself, then Patrick by himself, and then our superb vocalists together."
Joe sulked, grabbed his guitar and walked into the recording booth to do his part.
Patrick moved over a seat to sit next to me and looked at the chords. "Yep, those look like the key we should be in. Good going, Pete."
"I try." he said with a wink, and went back to his constant texting.
"So, have you got it down yet?" he asked, slightly joking.
I looked up and said with some confidence, "Yeah, I think I do. This is a lot simpler than a lot of stuff I've played before so, I think I have it down good enough."
"Well, we'll see about that. Play it with me." he said with a boyish gleam in his eye.
I grabbed my ukulele and he grabbed his guitar and he started first. We glut through the whole piece of music without me screwing up once and I smiled wide.
"See, told you I had it!"
Patrick kissed me on the lips and whispered in my ear, "I knew you did in the first place." he kissed me on the cheek as he walked off to Pete's chair as Pete got ready to get into the recording booth. Joe finished a few minutes ago
Patrick's warm breath on my ear and my neck made my spine tingle. I closed my eyes for a second and held onto that feeling, until I heard Farrah say, "Um, I have to go to the restroom, where is it?" Patrick looked up at her and said, "Next to the instrument room. To the left of the room and down the hall."
Farrah quickly nodded her head towards me and I put down my ukulele to follow. I couldn't wait to hear her reactions of the guys. Patrick grabbed me by the arm as I got up to leave and whispered, "Tell me everything when you get back."
I grinned.

I grinned.
