“Look Alive Sunshine…109 in the sky but the pigs wont quit…You're here with me Dr. DeathDefying….”

I cracked my eyes open a little bit as I heard the radio play from somewhere in the next room. A sound that I hadn’t heard in a long time. The sun was bright in my eyes, burning them as I attempted to open the fully. Sitting up on the dilapidated cot that I called my bed I rubbed them and began to look for the clothes that I’d discarded haphazardly the night before. However I didn’t find them.

Okay before you get any ideas no I wasn’t doing anything with anyone. I had been too tired to fold them and had just stripped and fallen into bed, my eyes closing before my head hit the pillow. Fucking Dracs keeping my ass up until five in the morning.

The year was 2019 and for the past 3 years things had gone downhill. It had started with Better Living Industries, at the time a small company, getting picked up with a government contract to help ‘clean up the country’. At first it had been okay, things had gotten better I had to admit but then it all changed.

A man named Korse was named head of BLI. He thought that…well that he was the only one who should have thought. After that it had been a long series of people getting brainwashed or executed by Korse and his troop of Draculoids.

I’d lost so much in the past 3 years. That was my whole reason for being out here. I had to find the Killjoys. They were the only ones that could help me bring my dreams of bringing Korse down for good.

Sighing I stood up from the cot and walked through the sheet that served as my door. As of right now we lived in an old hardware store. I don’t know why a hardware store was located in the middle of the California desert but about 2 months before we’d come across it and made camp.

There was a large front room where we had a couch, a beat up coffee table, an old snowy TV that didn’t work most of the time and a radio on one side and on the other side was where we had a little table and where we kept our food. We had converted the two offices in the back into bedrooms for ourselves with the bathroom in the middle.

Sitting on the couch listening to Dr. DeathDefying on the radio talking about what Korse was doing was my best friend and partner in crime Candy. Her real name was Charlotte Garret but she went by Cyanide Candy, or as I called her Candy. She was fully dressed in a pair of black jeans, sneakers and a blue tank top, her flaming red hair pulled back in a ponytail.

“Candy what did you do with the clothes I was wearing yesterday?” I asked.

“I washed them. They were filthy.” she replied.

I rolled my eyes, “They were not! They were a little dusty sure but they weren’t filthy.”

“Are you serious? A little dusty? Angel you rolled around in the dirt for ten minutes when you were fighting that Draculoid yesterday! And have you seen yourself yet?” she asked.

“Just tell me where you put my shit.” I replied.

She sighed, “Your clothes from yesterday are still drying in the bathroom and your bag is next to your bed. My god how would you get along without me?” she asked.

I smirked and walked to my room. She had a point. She was the one that made sure I did something other than sleep and ride around on my motorcycle all day. If it wasn’t for her I’d never have clean clothes either. However I’d never admit this out loud. She knew it anyhow.

Sure enough when I walked into my room the worn leather backpack I kept all my clothes in was sitting by my bed. I picked it up before pulling a black tank top and a pair of faded skinnies along with some underwear and socks.

As I did so I caught a look at myself in the mirror. Candy was right, I looked like shit. My black and purple hair was matted and crazy and I had streaks of dust covering my skin. Shaking my head I headed into the bathroom.

I shoved my head under the sink before pulling it out and rubbing shampoo through it and sticking my head back under the faucet. That was one thing I hated about being out in the Zones and crashing in random places. There was no place to shower and therefore we had to use whatever running water we could find.

I had just rinsed my hair and had begun rubbing a soapy wash cloth over my arms and face when suddenly Candy burst into the bathroom.

“Shit load of Dracs coming toward us! Ten minutes away! Saw em’ coming out the front window!” she said.

“Damn it! There goes my bath!” I replied and quickly began shucking off the boy shorts and tank top I wore while Candy ran off to pack up as much as she could.

Usually we’d just fight the Dracs but when Candy said a shit load I knew that she meant it. When it was just a couple of them she’d walk in all cocky with a smirk and tell me there was someone that had cashed a check their ass couldn’t cover. But now she had the terrified and worried look she had when we were found and had to evacuate.

I pulled on my underwear, jeans and tank top in a flash before running into my room. Grabbing the bag with my clothes in it I began to shove everything that I owned inside. I didn’t have much just clothes, a pair of well worn Converse, a dilapidated copy of Harry Potter 4 and a skeleton doll, my winnings from a crane machine when I was 12.

Once all my stuff was in my backpack I shoved my feet roughly into the motocross boots I wore on an almost daily basis and grabbed my red leather jacket and gloves and pulled them on. From my bedside table I grabbed my switchblade, shoving it into the top of my boot before picking up my gun and helmet and heading to the front.

Candy stood by her bike near the front doors, pulling her hair into a bun, her black leather jacket and blue gloves and backpack on, “Ready?” she asked as she pulled her glittery blue mask and her helmet.

“Ready as I’ll ever be.” I said as I pulled my own red mask and helmet on and threw my leg over my matching bike.

“Hit the gas.” Candy said turning on her bike, allowing it to roar to life.

“Kill em’ all.” I replied with a laugh pulling my gun from it’s holster as she did the same and we took off.

The glass of the hardware store’s front doors shattered as we drove at full speed threw them. It rained around us like stars as we drove forward, the engines roaring like monsters under us.

We met the Dracs halfway, our guns at the ready. As soon as we were in range we started shooting, the lazers from the barrels zipping toward them. We managed to knock off five right off the bat but there were about ten more coming at us.

“What the hell?!? Why are there so many?” Candy asked.

“No clue! Separate! You go left and I’ll go right! We’ll get behind them and by the time they get turned around we’ll be halfway down the street!” I yelled.

Candy gave me a nod and a split second later we pulled the bikes in different directions. The dust clouded around me, sticking my bike and clothes but I couldn’t stop. Death was not on my agenda for the day.

I made an arc around the wasteland that surrounded me, pulling behind Korse’s men. Candy was beside me a second later. We hit the throttles and in ten minutes time we’d lost the Dracs. We’d survived.

For now.
