Frank's POV
I arrived home to utter chaos. Mikey and Gerard were throwing punches and growling curses at one another. Melody was sobbing uncontrollably. I screamed and shouted for them to stop but the stubborn fuckers wouldn't listen. The next thing I knew Gerard was launching himself at Mikey but Mikey dodged his attack. Gerard's shoulder connected hard with Melody's stomach and she crumpled to the ground. Just as I reached her she lost consciousness.
"Melody? Melody?! Goddammit! I swear on everything that I love if you have hurt that baby I will fucking murder you, Gerard!"
"F-Frank.....I-I......I d-didn't mean to."
"Fuck you, Gerard!"
Everyone began to crowd around Melody and I lost it.
"Get the fuck away from her! All of you!"
"Frank, please." Mikey pleaded.
"No! Fuck you too, Mikey! This is your fault too!"
They must have sensed how enraged and serious I was because they all backed away with shocked faces. I crouched beside Melody's unconscious body. She was breathing fine and she didn't seem to have any head wounds. My eyes trailed down her body as I checked for any obvious injuries. My heart skipped a beat as my eyes landed on her thighs. A small stream of blood was trickling down her legs.
"Call 911! Now!" I screeched.
Zac shakily dialed 911 and began frantically speaking to the operator. My attention snapped back to Melody. My heart beat rapidly in my chest. Fear gripped me causing my breathing to become labored. The only thought running through my brain at that moment was that she was losing the baby. My baby. A few stray tears trailed down my cheeks as I pulled Melody into my lap and began rocking us back and forth. I silently begged and pleaded to the heavens not to let this happen.
A few minutes later another wave of chaos ensued as EMTs swarmed the apartment and ripped Melody from my arms.
"Sir, what happened here?" I looked up to see one of the EMTs speaking to me.
"Those two fucking idiots were fighting and accidentally slammed into her stomach!" I growled as I pointed a shaking finger at both Mikey and Gerard.
"Please don't let the baby die! Please!" I begged him.
"She's pregnant?"
"Yes. She is almost three months pregnant. Please help her!"
"We'll do everything we can."
I watched as they loaded Melody onto a stretcher and began carrying her out of the apartment. I scrambled to my feet and dashed after them.
"Are you the baby's father?"
"Yes sir. Is the baby okay?"
"We won't know for sure until we get to the hospital. We only have room for one of you."
"I'm going." I growled at Mikey before he had the chance to speak. He only nodded.
"We are taking her to Liberty Medical Center." The EMT told Mikey.
I climbed into the ambulance and watched in horror as they poked and prodded at Melody's still unconscious body. My stomach churned and my heart ached as I thought about the baby. My baby. I know I had not wanted this baby to begin with. I had been an asshole about the whole situation but it was because I had been terrified. I had been afraid of being a father but over the past couple of weeks I had grown fond of the thought of having a beautiful little boy or girl to call my own. A tiny little baby to hold and love and protect with my life if need be.
Once we arrived I was ushered out of the ambulance. I hurried along side the stretcher until I was informed I could go no further. I sighed in defeat as a nurse led me to the waiting area.
"Sir, I need you to fill out these forms for me."
I took the clipboard from her and slumped into a chair. As I glanced over the form I realized I knew nothing about Melody. I continued to stare blankly at the paper until the door burst open interrupting me from my thoughts.
"Frank! Where is she?! Is she okay?!" Mikey cried.
"I don't fucking know!" I snapped.
"Frank, I am sorry. This wasn't supposed to happen."
"Just get the fuck away from me!"
Mikey sighed heavily and sank into a chair.
"Benji, can you fill out these forms? I don't know any of Melody's information."
"Yeah."
"Actually, I'll do it. She had a slight change of information." Gerard stated as he began to fill the forms out. Once he was done he returned them to the nurse.
For the next two hours I did nothing but pace nervously around the waiting room begging for both Melody and the baby to be okay. Finally, after two hours a doctor came to talk to us.
"Green family?"
"That's us." Gerard answered. I looked at him in confusion.
"We have moved Melody into her own room. I would like to keep her overnight for monitoring."
"What about my baby? Is my baby okay?"
The doctor sighed and my heart plummeted into my stomach.
"I have good news and bad news. She lost one of the babies but the other is just fine."
"Wait, what? She was only pregnant with one child."
"I'm afraid not. It was twins."
"How is that possible? I was there for her last ultrasound and there was only one baby."
"Sometimes that can happen when one twin is hiding behind the other. Their heartbeats will coincide so it seems there is only one baby."
"Oh god no! One of my babies is dead?!"
"I am really sorry sir."
"What about Melody? Is she going to be okay?" I heard Mikey question.
"She is stable. She suffered a mild concussion and the loss of one of her babies but other than that she is doing fine. She is sleeping and we are closely monitoring the surviving baby."
"C-Can I see her?" I questioned.
"Yes but only two at a time."
I glared at Gerard and Mikey, daring them to follow me.
"I think Frank needs some time alone with Melody." Benji stated.
"But I..."
"Mikey, I said only Frank goes." Benji growled.
I turned and followed the doctor to Melody's room. I slowly walked to her side and sank into the chair beside her bed. She looked so small lying in that hospital bed. Her skin was paler than usual and she lay unmoving. The only movement came from the steady rise and fall of her chest. I gently stroked the skin where my surviving baby was safely nestled. I slumped over her body and let the tears fall. My body shook violently and the salty tears poured as I mourned the loss of my child. The child that had been taken away from me before I ever even knew of its existence. The child I would never get to hold in my arms. The child I would never get to see grow up. The child that I would never lay eyes on.
