Chatper 2 - Clustering Wishes
"Synchro Summon! Take flight, Stardust Dragon!" The Dragon came bursting out of the card. "Let's do this! Shooting Sonic!" Stardust Dragon opened it's mouth and emitted a huge beam of silvery energy, blasting away the remaining manakins.

Yusei sighed in relief and put Stardust Dragon's card back into his deck. He looked at the scenery surrounding him, trying to figure out whose 'world shard' he was in. When the 10 warriors first gathered, they provided each other with information about where they came from and their own respective enemies. The Gods had brought together shards of different worlds to create this one - and Yusei's was one of the ones chosen; but he was always left thinking "Why me?" Apart from himself, Judai and Yugi - all the other members of Aura's forces were warriors, or at least had some kind of combat experience, but he had nothing. He was an 18-year-old Turbo Duelist from Satellite - the poorest area of Neo Domino City - so why was he chosen?

This was clearly the 'world shard' described by Himari Noihara - her ancestral village of Noihara, hidden deep within a forest. Compared with the bright lights of Neo Domino City, Yusei found this place to be quite sparse.
"Hey, Yusei, what'cha doing?" Yusei turned around.
"Nothing, Ichigo. I was just thinking about..." His voice trailed off.
"Your own world, right?"
"Yeah."
"Well don't worry!" Ichigo smiled at him. "I'm sure we'll go back once this is over."

Rex Godwin strode down the hallway of the abandoned Seitetsu Private Academy. He had his own plans for Aura's warriors and had no concerns over what plans the other's had made. He looked up. Sousuke Aizen was walking the other way, minding his own business. He only spoke after they passed each other.
"Do you miss the light?" He asked.
"I merely have duties to fulfill." Replied Rex.
"Fine. But remember, get too close to the light - and you may get scorched."

It was amazing how different two world shards could be and how easy it was to travel between them. A few short minutes ago, Yusei, Maka, Soul, Ichigo and Yusuke were in a secluded village in rural Japan and now suddenly, they were gazing out of a window... into space. The Galactic Leyline was far from any other planets, but the view of peaceful space was enough. But there was no time to take it in - the manakins had already started to appear. They decided to split up to fight them off. Yusei ran towards a group of them, activating his Duel Disk.
"Show yourself, Junk Warrior!" It burst of it's card; but the manakins were already gone. Stunned, Yusei looked around, and was shocked to find him standing there.
"Rex Godwin? I thought you and Rudger passed on...?" His signer mark was beginning to glow. Wait, was that the reason that...?
"We had, but there was a mission I had to fulfil." He raised his finger to point at Yusei. "To defeat you." Before Yusei could reply, Rex had summoned Priest of the Sun and attacked him. Yusei was thrown back onto the floor. Wiping blood from the cut on his face, he got up - but Rex was already gone. Then he heard Rex's voice again. "If you want to know the secret, follow my shadow."

"So, did you have any fun?" asked Raizen.
"What I do in terms of Aura's warriors has nothing to do with you." Rex replied.
"Oh, I beg to differ." Raizen leaned closer to him. "It has an effect on all of us."
This was were Rex and Raizen came to seclude themselves - the Aquatic Sanctuary. "Y'know, pretty soon they're gonna find out what you said. Don't go starting any trouble. They'll brand you as a traitor and won't hesitate to being you down."
"Hmph. Let them come. I'd like to see them try to stop me."

How had Yusuke managed to talk him into going to talk to Rex? No matter. Now Yusei was standing in front of a huge structure, the Sokyoku, and admiring its architecture.
"So, you did come, signer." Rex's voice cut through the silence of the Seireitei.
"You said you would tell me the secret if I followed you. The secret of what?"
"Of the Crystals, of course - and how you would go about -" Rex was interrupted by load crash. Darkness had come charging through the rocks.
"Rex Godwin." He said. "You are to return with me at once. I am not afraid to use force."
Rex activated his Duel Disk, but was stopped by Yusei.
"Why?" Asked Rex
"You're not gonna be defeated until you tell me the secret." Yusei replied.

"Stardust Dragon!" Yusei's voice was filled with panic. Too late. Stardust had already been defeated by Darkness' Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon. Now all he had was his level 1 Road Runner.
"HA! Is that all the power you possess?" Yusei didn't answer. Darkness sighed. "I guess it is. So boring. Well, in that case..." Red-Eyes roared a flew into the air again, ready to strike.
"Appear now, Saviour Dragon!" The little beast popped out of it's card and started to fly.
"Don't insult me!" Darkness shouted. "Do you seriously think that nothing can defeat Red-Eyes?" Yusei ignored him
"I use the magic card Resurrection of the Dead to revive Stardust Dragon."
"WHAT!?"
"Darkness, you will never cut through the light of hope. I tune Saviour Dragon to Stardust Dragon and Road Runner!" Darkness stood in shock. Was he really going to be defeated? "Clustering star lights will enlighten a new miracle! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon! Arrive in light, Saviour Star Dragon!"

"The Crystals' secret?" Asked Rex
"Yes." replied Yusei "Just as you said. Tell me."
"...very well." Rex took a deep breath. "The Crystals shine on hearts with unwavering resolve." He said. "To obtain it, you must prove that you can defeat your enemies while relying on no-one else. That is it's secret."

"Is that true?" Ichigo asked.
"I believe that it is the truth we've been after, yes." Yusei responded.
"But you said yourself we can't trust this guy!"
"Relax, Ichigo." Yusei stood up and looked over the barren landscape of the Makai, the demon world and affixed his Duel Disk back onto his arm "I'm going to meet him again."
"What? But Yusei -!"
"But this time I'm going to fight." His signer birthmark began to glow again. He carried the head the Crimson Dragon as a birthmark on his arm. His friends back in the real Neo Domino City carried the wings, the tail, and the front and hind claws. That's right. That's why he was chosen. Rex was chosen by the God of Discord as a Dark Signer. Yusei was called by Aura as a signer. His objective - why he was called here - was to defeat Rex Godwin, the Dark Signer.

He stood and looked out. This bridge was the one he started. This was his dream to unite Satellite with Neo Domino City... he never realised that the very person he was destined to fight had made that dream a reality. The city now looked so different, so prosperous. The highways connected to each other reaching every part of the city and Satellite; the monument in the middle of them - a testament to the union of the two parts of the city; the new Duel Circuit, built for the WRGP - the World Riding Grand Prix. This had all started with his dream. He wanted to connect Satellite to Neo Domino City, but his plan for the Daedalus Bridge failed and he lost all hope. He never expected that the very people he fought - the people destiny chose him to fight - would be the ones to see his dream completed.
"You took your time." Rex turned around, slowly. There he was. The young man that made his dream a reality.
"I'm sure you know why I'm here, Godwin." Yusei replied. Rex took one more look at the city, then turned back to him.
"Let's go then." Rex's eyes burned and he let out a roar. The mark of the condor on his back started to glow and the condor geoglyph appeared on the ground. "It's time to end this, Yusei Fudo!"

"Duel!"
"I'll go first! Draw!" Yusei had called the first move. "I use Reincarnation of Hope! By discarding two monsters from my hand, in the the standby phase two turns from now I can bring a monster to my hand." He knew what he had to do. "I now discard a card from my hand to special summon Quick Synchron!" The masked tuner monster exploded from the card. "I use the effect of Bolt Hedgehog from my graveyard - he can be special summoned when there is a tuner monster on the field! Then I summon Road Runner!" The two little animals came running from their cards. "Now I tune Quick Synchron to Bolt Hedgehog and Road Runner!" He looked at Rex. It was odd. Rex's face retained the confidence it had before the duel started. Yusei continued anyway. "Clustering wishes will become a new shining star! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon! Take flight, Stardust Dragon!" Yusei's favourite card. It soared into the air and down again, roaring. Yet Rex Godwin's face remained unchanged. "I set a card, and I can't attack on my first turn, I'll end it there."
"Then it's my turn. Draw!" Now Yusei was scared. There was so much power and confidence in his voice. Did he really have a plan? "I activate the field spell Mausoleum of the Emperor. And now, since you have a monster on the field and I don't, I special summon Priest of the Sun. Then I normal summon Red Ant Ascator." This was just like last time they duelled! Was he going to Synchro Summon? "Yusei, last time we duelled I summoned Sun Dragon Inti and Moon Dragon Quilla. They were only there because your friends were too - I hardly need them now!" He wasn't going to Synchro Summon? So then... what was he going to do? "I activate Double Summon, allowing me to summon twice this turn." Rex's eyes became engulfed in darkness. "Yusei," He said "It's already over. I sacrifice Priest of the Sun and Red Ant Ascator to summon my ultimate monster!" His ultimate monster... could it be? "Bring forth the ultimate destruction! The strongest Earthbound God! Come forth, Wiraqocha Rasca!" The sky turned black and lightning began to strike the city as the great condor rose from the card. "Do you remember it's effects? You cannot attack it but it can attack you directly!" Rex broke out into manic laughter. "Or I can give up my battle phase in order to reduce your life points to 1!" Yusei was frozen with fear and could only watch as Wiraqocha Rasca sent a beam of darkness straight towards him. Rex laughed again. "I need to do nothing else! I end my turn! Give in now, Yusei Fudo!"
This was it. His one chance. If he could draw that card now... "My turn, draw!" He looked at the card; and he smiled.
"What's so funny!?" Rex demanded
"You were right." Yusei replied. "It really is over. I summon Saviour Dragon!"
"What!? You managed to draw it?" A grin then spread onto his face. "I know what you're doing, but even that won't work!"
"Want to try it?" Yusei challenged him. Rex was taken aback. Yusei smiled again. "When Stardust Dragon is on the field, I can special summon Stardust Xiaolong from my graveyard! Now I tune Majestic Dragon to Stardust Dragon and Stardust Xiaolong! Clustering star lights will enlighten a new miracle! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon! Arrive in light, Saviour Star Dragon!" Rex grinned again.
"Saviour Star Dragon has only 3800 Attack Points, that's not enough to defeat me! Besides you can't even attack Wiraqo-"
"I activate Saviour Star Dragon's effect, negating the effects of all your monsters!"
"What!?"
"Then I activate my trap, Synchro Baton! It increases Saviour Star Dragon's attack points by the number of Synchro monsters in my graveyard times 600! I have Stardust Dragon in my graveyard, increasing Saviour Star Dragon's attack points to 4400!" Rex was panicking now, but it was too little too late. "Go, Saviour Star Dragon! Shooting Blaster Sonic!" Rex had 4000 Life Points. Earthbound God Wiraqocha Rasca had 100 Attack Points. It was all over.

It appeared! The light of hope that had been entrusted to him. Yusei watched as the crystal formed itself. It was crimson, and the same shape as the Signer birthmark on his right arm.
"Congratulations, Yusei Fudo." Rex had stood up again. "That light was born from the resolve you had to defeat me, so that you could tell your comrades the secret."
"This light... our hope was born from simply that?" Yusei asked.
"The secret of the Crystals." Rex replied. "I already told you it. Go now. Tell your comrades. Help them to obtain their own individual lights."

"The future is never certain. But I know that we'll all go back. We'll all see our friends again..."

Note on this chapter - All the cards mentioned in this chapter are either real cards or have been used in the anime of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Because of my hate for 4Kids, they're all referred to by their Japanese names.
