I looked down at the paperwork she threw on the desk. I picked it up and scanned through it, well looks like I got the job then. I was trying to suppress a big grin that was itching to break out on my face, but I knew now wasn’t the right time. Natasha was absolutely fuming; you could literally see the steam coming out from her ears. I’ve only ever seen her once like this and that was when out old receptionist booked a holiday for a week before she put it in the book. So I guess that explains why I’m the receptionist as well as a piercing technician.
“How dare you go behind my back like an absolute traitor and apply for another job!” She spat at men. Normally I would just ignore my boss to stop an argument but this time I could feel my blood starting to boil. How dare she talk to me that way.
“I only applied for the job I didn’t think I’d actually get it and anyway what are you doing going through my emails?” I said through gritted teeth.
“Well maybe you shouldn’t leave emails open and then I wouldn’t find them. I mean I gave you a job, I trusted you and then you go put a knife in my back and able for some stupid fucking photography journalism job.”
“Trusted me? You hate me you always have and yeah you may have given me the job but you didn’t have to. The only reason I’m still doing this job is for the money otherwise I would have left along time ago.”
“Come on Natasha just let it drop, you didn’t expect Lex to work here forever did you?” Said Storm in a level voice. It was then that I realised we weren’t alone in the shop. Damn it! I looked around at the faces in the room, Mikey and Bob were trying to hide behind their magazines and Frank was putting his shirt back on trying to avoid my gaze. Great I was making everyone awkward.
“You know what.” I said cutting her off before she could speak “Screw this job I quit thanks for nothing. By Jason bye Storm I’ll call you.” With that I grabbed my stuff and marched out the door.
I was itching to go back and yell some more but I knew I shouldn’t I didn’t want to make even more of a fool out of myself. I carried on walking to the place that I knew would calm me down. Minutes later I was sitting at a table in the coffee shop. Taylor wasn’t working until this afternoon so no one would bother me while I sat here.
With that someone tapped me on the shoulder. Spoke to soon.
I turned to look at the person who had tapped me with aggravation, but as soon as I saw him I melted. Frank was standing behind me with a concerned look on his face.
He then sat in the seat opposite me, slightly flushed and out of breath.
I frowned at him slightly confused.
“God you walk fast, I almost lost you. Look are you okay?” He asked in a serious tone.
I looked at him and gave a weak smile. “Not really but I’ll be fine, thanks for the concern its pretty sweet but you didn’t have to run after me.”
“Of course I did that woman is crazy. She should have spoken to you like that even if she is your boss, well your ex-boss now.” He explained thinking about what he said and giving a little snigger. Damn the snigger was cute and infectious, I couldn’t help but laugh along too. He looked up and smiled and yet again I blushed. Oh why did he make me act like such a weirdo.
“Thanks, I appreciate it. But where are Bob and Mikey?”
“That’s okay and they have gone to Mc Donalds to grab something to eat. So do you want a coffee? My treat.” I simply nodded as her got up and ordered out drinks. He place mine in front of me and I couldn’t help but sniff the aroma and smile.
“Sorry that I’m stopping you from getting a Mc Donalds.” I said playfully.
“Hmm I think ill get over it, it was either go eat junk food with two men or have coffee with a beautiful woman.” He said in a deep seductive voice. I just couldn’t help but avert my gaze and hide my face with my hair. Why did I have to be so self-conscious.
Trying to change the subject I asked, “So does your back hurt?” Stupid question my mind muttered to me.
“He simply shrugged and said “A bit but that doesn’t matter, so tell me whats this job you were going for?” he leaned forward and put his elbows on the table. I grinned and mimicked his posture.
“Well it’s a photography job in a magazine, I get to photograph, bands and artists and give interviews. Its like my dream job.” I gushed, I loved talking about this stuff its just that no one really cares to listen. Except Frank of course but why?
“Sounds good, you may have to take some photos of us sometime. So how does a photographer end up in a tattoos studio doing piercings? He asked with a cheeky grin.
“Um long story short when I was in uni a guy I knew taught me how to pierce people if in return I would photograph his girlfriend for her to use in her portfolio. It was pretty fun and then he pierced my nose for me.” I said pointing toward the stud. “Any way whats up with all these questions?” I asked look directly at him and smiling.
“I’m just being nosy I guess. Why don’t you like my questions?” He said leaning his head to the side and smiling mischievously.
“That’s another question, maybe I wanna ask you some questions.” I said unconsciously looking down toward his left hand and then looking back at his face giving my best attempt at a flirty smile. He followed my gaze and simply smiled.
“Hmm well I think we should save that for another time.” He said slowly getting up and stretching. “I’ll see you real soon Lex.” He winked and gave a dazzling smile and walked out the shop.
I simply sat there wondering if what happened was real. I had got into an argument, I have no job and now I had just been flirting with Frank Iero. These kind of things just don’t happen. Especially to me and with my curse with men. No Lex! You will not think about that bastard and ruin your good mood. I got up and walked out, a big cold breeze hit me. It was getting cold lately it was late November so there was some question about snow. It was think that it suddenly hit me. “Wait how will he see me again?” I said talking to myself. He didn’t have my number, didn’t know where I lived or even my full name. That was totally gonna bug me.
