Melody's POV
Another few weeks passed us by in a blur. I am quickly approaching the fifth month mark of my pregnancy and my stomach is only expanding more and more with the passage of time. Christmas is upon us as well. With only two days left until Christmas Day the apartment looks like the North Pole threw up on everything.
Upon Frank's insistence, we decorated the entire apartment with strings of lights, colored tinsel, Christmas figurines, and fake snow. There is currently a seven foot Christmas tree stuck into one corner of the living room where it's constantly shedding its needles everywhere. Frank insisted that the tree had to be real because 'It's against the Laws of Christmas to have a fake tree.' Personally, I want to throw the damn thing out of the fucking window.
Poor Mikey must have knocked the damn tree over at least five times before he was finally able to get it stable in the tree stand. As if that wasn't enough of a headache Mikey and Frank had argued for a hour about that colors to decorate the damn tree in. Mikey had been adamant about the blue and silver ornaments while Frank had pouted over the red and white ones. In the end, thanks to me, the tree had equal amounts of red, silver, blue, and white hanging from its branches.
It gets worse than that though. That very same evening Chris had nearly caught the kitchen on fire when he burned a batch of cookies that had been forgotten. Luckily, the only real damage was a charred cabinet and the loss of a baking pan.
Today is a completely different story. Today I am more excited than I have ever been in my life. Today is the day I will find out if Frank and I will be welcoming a son or a daughter into this world. Frank is unaware of this fact but I am glad. I want to surprise him with the news myself. To my advantage Mikey and Frank have band related responsibilities to attend to so Gerard will be taking me to my appointment.
"Mel?"
"Yeah Frankie?"
"I think I should just cancel and stay here with you. Ray or Chris could go with Mikey instead."
"No Frank. Everything will be fine. Besides, you will be home tomorrow night."
"I know." He frowned. "It's just....I haven't missed any of your appointments so far and I feel shitty about it. I really want to be there."
"It's okay, Frankie. I promise I will bring you the new ultrasound pictures."
"Okay but it still sucks."
"I know but you don't want to let your fans down, do you?"
"No." He mumbled.
"Then you have to go. If you want to you can call me tonight and talk to the baby."
His eyes instantly lit up and a huge grin spread across his face.
"I am definitely taking you up on that offer."
"Don't worry, Frankie. I will take good care of her."
"Thanks Gee. Just be careful. Mikey and I will be back late tomorrow night."
"Okay. You two drive safely." Gerard responded.
"We will."
Before Frank left he spent a few minutes crouched down in front of my stomach, rubbing it and talking to the baby. I smiled as I watched the loving gesture. Mikey had to practically drag Frank away from my stomach.
"You ready?" Gerard questioned.
"Yep. Let me just get my things."
A few minutes later Gerard and I was seated in his car and speeding off toward Newark.
"You didn't tell Frank what today's appointment is for, did you?"
"Nope."
"I didn't think so. He would have canceled those interviews in a heartbeat."
"I know and that is why I didn't tell him. I am going to surprise him. Oh, that reminds me. Can you take me shopping after my appointment?"
"Of course. You got some last minute Christmas shopping to do?"
"Yep. I am going to surprise Frank on Christmas morning with the news. I can't wait to see his face."
"I am so bringing a camera for this. He's going to have a fit."
"I know." I grinned. Gerard chuckled.
A short time later Gerard pulled to a stop in the parking lot of my doctor's office. We went inside, I signed in, and we waited patiently until I was called back. Once we were settled into the room we didn't have to wait long before Dr. Carter entered the room.
"Hello Melody. How are you today?"
"Hi Dr. Carter. I am doing great."
"Where is Daddy today?"
"He had to work. This is our friend, Gerard."
"Nice to meet you, Gerard." She smiled and shook Gerard's hand.
"So, are you excited for today?"
"Definitely. I cannot wait to find out what we are having."
"The wait is over, dear. Just lie back and lift your shirt for me."
I did as I was told. I winced slightly as the icy cold, blue gel was spread across my abdomen. Dr. Carter swiped the transducer slowly over my stomach and the fuzzy grey and white picture of my baby appeared on the small screen. Dr. Carter studied the screen intently before speaking.
"Everything looks great. The baby is developing nicely and your amniotic fluid is sufficient. Are you ready to find out the baby's gender?"
"Yes ma'am."
She studied the screen for a moment before marking an area of the monitor.
"It appears you will be welcoming a baby girl into this world."
"A girl?" I repeated.
"Yes."
"Wow. I....that's....wow."
"I told you it was a girl. You owe me fifty bucks." Gerard teased.
My eyes stayed fixed on the screen as I stared in amazement. That is my baby. My precious baby girl. Even as Dr. Carter wiped my stomach clean I couldn't tear my eyes away from the screen. It wasn't until Gerard waved a hand in front of my face did I break eye contact with the monitor.
"Sorry." I smiled sheepishly at him.
"I printed out two sets of the new ultrasound pictures for you and for Daddy. I will have my nurse schedule your next appointment and give you a call with the information."
"Thank you."
As Gerard and I left the doctor's office I found myself entranced by the small, fuzzy pictures in my hands. Even as he drove back toward Belleville all I could think about was the beautiful little girl growing inside of me. I couldn't help wondering if she would look more like me or more like Frank or maybe she would be a perfect mix of the two of us. Would she have Frank's stunning hazel eyes or my icy blue ones? Would she have Frank's small pink lips or my slightly plump ones? Would she share her Daddy's chocolate locks or her Mommy's dark raven locks? So many different possibilities raced through my mind.
"Mel?....Melody?"
"Hmm?"
"You okay?"
"Yeah. I was just thinking about the baby." I smiled.
"You know, Frank is going to be so excited."
"Do you really think so?"
"Of course. Why wouldn't he be?"
"I don't know. I just don't want him to be upset with me because I didn't tell him about today."
"Trust me he won't. He's going to be ecstatic. Especially since he was right about it being a girl."
"I hope so."
"He will. You'll see."
The next stop we made was at the mall where I wandered from store to store gathering the things I would need for Frank's surprise. Once I had found everything I needed we headed back home.
"Thanks for taking me to my appointment and shopping, Gerard."
"It's no problem. I had fun at the mall and I got some last minute shopping done."
"I think I am gonna go lay down until Frank calls."
"Okay. I will be in the living room if you need anything."
"Thanks Gee."
I changed into my pajamas and crawled into Frank's bed. I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I knew I was being awoken by the sound of my cell phone ringing. I glanced at the screen to see it was Frank.
"Hey Frankie."
"Hey Mel. How did your appointment go?"
"It was great. Hang on and I will send you the new ultrasound pictures."
I quickly sent the pictures to him and waited until he received them.
"Oh Mel, he or she is getting so big."
I had to bit my lip and remind myself why I couldn't tell him yet.
"I know. I can't wait until we find out what we are having."
"I still say that is Daddy's little girl in there."
I smiled to myself knowing he was right.
"If you say so." I teased.
"Oh I do. Can I talk to her?"
"Hang on."
I put my cell on speaker phone and placed it against my stomach.
"Okay Frankie."
"Hey there, little one. Daddy misses you and wishes he could be there with you and Mommy right now. I wish I could rub Mommy's tummy and sing to you. I just want you to know that it doesn't matter if you are a boy or a girl because I will love you just the same. I love you so much already and I cannot wait to hold you in my arms. Just know that I love you so much."
Tears streamed freely down my cheeks as I listened to Frank talk to our daughter. I gasped when I felt a kick just below where the phone was placed followed quickly by another as Frank continued to speak to her.
"Frankie, the baby is kicking like crazy at the sound of your voice. I think he or she misses you, too."
"Really? I wish I could be there."
I could hear the sadness in his voice.
"It's okay. You will be back tomorrow night."
"I know but it seems like a lifetime away."
"It's okay, Frankie. Why don't you sing for the baby?"
Frank sang softly and the baby responded by kicking where the phone lay on my tummy.
"I've gotta go but I will be back as soon as I can."
"Okay. I will see you tomorrow."
"Goodnight Mel."
"G'Night Frankie."
I smiled to myself as I drifted off to sleep thinking about what Frank's reaction would be on Christmas morning.
I am so sorry this took so long to get out. Let's just say I had the worst New Year's weekend of my life and leave it at that. Anyway, since everyone is still split on the names I am going to call her Harmony Silver Iero. That way everyone should be satisfied. The idea for combining the names goes to Katiethebeat from Mibba so I thank her for that.
I love all of you for reading and reviewing. :)
