Chapter Two
Our first night as a family is a quiet one. Gerard orders chinese take-out and we sit in front of the TV and watch Tim Burton movies over and over until Bandit falls asleep and I can't feel my face anymore. That night the nightmares come, even though I feel safe, loved and whole for the first time in a month they still come. They're the same as they always are. My family are sitting at the Christmas table, laughing at something my older brother Jake had said. The colours are all light and airy, I'm happy even though I had previously been in a bad mood. The doorbell rings and my mum's younger brother Kyle goes to see who could be at the door. The atmosphere changes almost instantly, there is a gunshot and my Uncle Kyle is dead. The family starts to panic, we all duck under the table. More shots, Jake manages to push me into the trap door in the pantry in all the commotion. I hear scraping as something heavy is pushed over the door, probably hiding the door from view. One final shot and my brother Jake is dead too. Unlike reality though, while I bang and bang on the door to be let out of the small dark place the ground gives way and I am in a mass grave, the bodies of my most of my family lie around me, more bodies are piling on top of me. I scream and scream but no one knows I am alive. I wake up in tears in the room Lind-z and Gerard have made for me. Gerard is sitting on the bed with his arms around me, I can't stop crying. He doesn't tell me to stop crying like they did at the orphanage. Lind-z walks into the room with a fussy Bandit. I must have woken her. I open my mouth to apolagise.
"Don't." Lind-z says firmly "Don't you dare apolagise." she sits behind me and rubs my back. Her hand moves in small circles. Bandit climbs over onto my lap. She has stopped fussing and is staring up into my green eyes. She offers me her binky. I laugh, it's a bit watery, but it's a laugh. My family shares a group hug. It's more a Hinkly and Bandit sandwhich, but it's nice. Lind-z asks if I would like to sleep with them in their bed, with Bandit of course. Just like my mum used to. I decline, but change my mind after they leave. I slowly pad down the corridor towards their room. There is a light coming from under the door. I knock meekly and enter when I hear Gerard say come in. I walk into the room and crawl onto the bed. I fall asleep inbetween Lind-z and Bandit, with Gerard on the other side of Bandit. I don't wake up once during the night.
I wake up to the sound of rowdy voices down stairs. I open my eyes and look across the empty bed at the alam clock. It's two pm. I shuffle down stairs and into the living room. Four pairs of eyes focus on mine. I hear a happy squeel and turn to see a fifth pair of eyes looking at me, these are the eyes I meet. I walk soundlessly to Bandit and pick her up off Frank's lap and walk towards the nice smell in the kitchen. Lind-z is cooking lunch.
"I was thinking you, me and Bandit could go shopping today. We need to get you some clothes, so we can get rid of those clothes the orphanage gave you. You should wear stuff that fits you. I thought we could also pick out stuff for your bedroom. You'll need toiletries aswell?" she puts a plate of food in front of me and I eat some while Bandit plays in the rest.
"Yeah that would be great thanks. I need some make-up too, the orphanges just gives you a few clothes and pajamas." Lind-z nods while she serves up food for Gerard and his friends
"Have you met the boys yet?" she asks.
"Well they saw me, I pinched Bandit from Frank and came straight in here"
"Do you want to meet them? I know you really like Gee's band." I blush, she's right I do.
"I'm just worried about acting like a total fan girl around them." I mumble. I hear laughter from my right and spin around to see the guys in the door way. Oh my gosh it's My Chemical Romance! I blush some more and look at the mess Bandit has made of my lunch.
"Well I give you permission to act like a fangirl, just so you can get it out of your system." Gerard laughes. I shake my head furiously as he takes Bandit out of my arms to clean her up. Next thing I know I've been knocked off my chair by an unknown person. I feel my body spin around mid air and instead of landing on the cold tile floor I land on something squishy. Frank.
"I could've let you fall. You did steal MY Bandit from me. But it's ok. Coz you're now MY Hinkly. Give Uncle Frankie a hug and kiss!" I giggle as he starts to tickle my ribs. I then hear
"STACKS ON HINKLY!" and feel three bodies jump on me. I hear footsteps approach and Lind-z carefully places Bandit on top Ray's back. Bandit sits and claps her hands.
"Could you boys please get off Hinkly? She, Bandit and I have a shopping date with Gerards money." She picks Bandit up as Gerard and Ray help me up.
"Why weren't we invited?" Gerard pouts. Lind-z kisses him on the cheek then hold Bandit up to his face while she slobbers allover his cheek. "Awwww kisses from Bandit!"
"You weren't invited because you have band practise." she waves to the boys and grabs my hand. "Let's go pick you out some clothes. Then after we've shopped we'll have a ceremonial burning of the old clothes and parade around in our new ones!" I love my family.
