Prologue
I knew this wasn't going to work. They were going to close in, sooner or later, and we'd both be doomed. I squeezed Gerard's hand, meeting his eyes. There was no fear in me. I felt him trembling next to me. Whether that was from fear of him or fear of the unknown, I had no idea. We were going to die. But that was okay. Because at least Gerard wouldn't have to do this anymore.
But I was getting ahead of myself. We could, possibly, make it out of this alive. If we played our cards right. And got incredibly lucky.
"It's okay," he murmured. "At least we're together.
