#29, the sound of waves
Heaven
Heaven.
This is exactly as I image Heaven to be. The sun is rising over the water, glinting gold on the peaks of the surf. The breeze is already warm and feels absolutely wonderful whispering kisses across my bare skin. I run my foot across the deck, enjoying the grittiness of the rogue sand beneath my feet.
How I managed to talk Yuki into this is beyond me. Maybe his new meds are helping more than I think - and the doctor did say he needed to get away - maybe he finally chose to listen. Nevertheless, it was a shock when he agreed to the vacation with minimal begging. So here we are on the shore, residing in a quaint, secluded cottage with nothing but a large expanse of soft sand and the gentle lapping of the surf.
"How can you be up already?" Yuki's voice startles me from my thoughts. He looks so beautiful with his hair mussed from sleep, his silk robe hanging open to reveal his nakedness beneath. I watch him in silence as he lights a cigarette, exhaling a plume of smoke. He comes and stands next to me, leaning against the railing and looking out at the ocean. "Nice."
"Yeah, it is, isn't it?" The sun has moved higher in the sky, bathing the sand in a golden hue. Things feel so relaxed between us - here we have no deadlines, no recording sessions, and none of the general chaos of our normal existence. "Want me to fix you some breakfast?"
Yuki looks at me and smirks. "Are you trying to kill me the first day?" He shakes his head and chuckles, the sound so wonderful to my ears - when was the last time I heard Yuki laugh? "Let me finish this and I'll cook." Yuki absentmindedly waves the hand holding his cigarette and returns his eyes to the water.
He starts drinking early, while he's preparing breakfast, but I don't say anything. We're on vacation and I have no desire to fight. We've been here over twelve hours and he has yet to insult me. Of course eight of those twelve hours were spent sleeping, but I'm going for a record here, and I don't want to rock the boat. I watch in awe as he expertly chops vegetables for omelets; and all I was going to make was toast.
"What are you going to do today?" I ask, wondering what Yuki's idea of vacation activities could be.
"Sit on the deck, drink, smoke and read...and then maybe you." Yuki's golden eyes look at me and I swear I see a glint of amusement there, despite the seriousness of his tone. I feel myself blush at this, like a schoolboy - Yuki can always do this to me. He returns to his chopping, and asks almost as an afterthought, "What about you? Your plans?"
"Just lay on the beach and get some sun. It feels like forever since I've spent any time outside. Fresh air and sunshine will suit me fine." I smile at him even though he doesn't look up. "You should come and sit with me on the beach. I'll let you read - promise."
"No thanks. I'll stick to the shade and easy access to the fridge."
After breakfast we go our separate ways. I take a radio and blanket; content to lie down and watch the fluffy clouds move across the blue sky. I let my mind drift like the clouds, focusing on nothing at all.
